Erm, where do you keep ur tomato sauce. We've always kept ours in a cupboard since time began, but reading the bottle it says "Keep Refigerated". How many years of my life av I taken off me by storing it in the wrong place!!

Government should be run on a message board!

I notice most pickled stuff now seems to have 'keep refrigerated' on...

Thought preserving stuff was the whole point of pickling!?!

Cheers, Phil

Heinz tomato ketchup tastes like (nasty)gash to me, I much prefer Daddies.

Same with baked beans, much prefer the cheapo makes.

I had no idea you were supposed to refridgerate the stuff.

I wondered about that too - always keep our sauces in the cupboard and I've not poisoned myself yet. I was also wondering why pickelled onions and the like say keep refrigerated on them.

I have brown sauce on beans on toast, yum. I also have brown sauce on sausage and egg sandwiches, but if it's just a sausage sandwich then it has to be red sauce. I am strange.

Well I heard that tommie sauce should be keep in the fridge cos it can be carsonagenic (sp!) in that it can cause cancer!!

Don't know how much truth is in that though!!

I'm one of the saddos who do refrigerate things as per the instructions on the labels. The reason that even pickled foods require refrigerating is that the pickling only preserves the food for as long as it is sterile. This is the same for jams, marmalades, chutneys, etc. Once the container is opened, bacteria from the air, or any spoon, etc., can begin to grow on the food. So you then need to refrigerate to slow down the deterioration of the product. However, none of this really matters if you eat the food quickly, and most food labels are just get out clauses for the manufacturers in case of food poisoning.
