View Full Version : Gauges?
hmmmm.... any recommendations for gauges?? apart from the obvious boost gauge, btw, what boost gauges are considered to be reliable? worth paying 100quid for a blitz? don't want to mount one under the stereo so is there an A-pillar pod attachment for the S13? anyone tried it? have been told that an air/fuel ratio gauge on a turbo ain't so good and so oil temp./press and water temp gauges are more essential if needed. HELP NEEDED!
cheers

I'm planning on getting a decent boost gauge and an exhaust gas temperature gauge. The EGT does a similar job to the A/F meter, but is much more accurate at the sort of temperatures experienced in turbo'd motors.
You can get A-Pillar meter holders. Trust make a twin meter holder for the S13 and several manufacturers sell single universal fit jobs.

Awaiting delivery!
My Greddy(Trust) A-pillar pod panel turned up on Wednesday.
Superb - now just waiting for the Blitz gauges (ordered 6 weeks ago but someone forgot to tell their Jap colleagues!)
Holds 2 60mm gauges and goes from the base to the top of the A-pillar and the gauges are angled sraight at you for prime viewing!
Finished in a similar style to the OE interior so should look really cool.

I got an A pillar boost gauge, looks schweet. I do wish however that I had bought the fancy digital one from demon tweeks, its about 150 quid, but looks wikkid, it tellso you boost pressure and boost temperature, gotta have it.
DT also do a digital oil pressure and oil temp gauge aswell

I use Autometer guages. Ive got boost, oil temperature and oil pressure. Autometer do a vast range of guages in various sizes and finishes (black bezel/ black face, white face, alloy bezel/ face, carbon fibre etc). I have the alloy jobbies which are very nicely made, fitted in an ally panel I made that replaces the centre vents. They cost me £140 for the 3.
For the money, I dont think you can beat Autometer. After all, they dont make anything but guages/ measuring equipment.

WAHEY!!! this trust/greddy one sounds good, visited their website but couldn't see a picture or any info. Question is where do i get one from and for how much? matt - do u supply one through ur octane performance company? what were ur gauges like? i think a boost and exhaust gas temp. gauge would prob. be the best gauges for the pod, so if anyone knows any prices for good gauges of these types then please let me know!
cheers

DAM!! These cars are great.....:)
by the way...steve? just saw ur entry (doh!) and am well impressed with ur location of the gauges in the centre vents, the thought had ocurred to me to let some oil press + temp. gauges as well as a water temp. gauge live there but i was contemplating the thought of how to make something to hold them. have you got a picture of your gauges in their holder as they are now? would it be possible for u to make me one at all, cos i am no way a pro at these sort of things and don't wish the sx to end up with some bodged up max power job....
cheers

Well, it looks like I've been done out a sale by a mate (cheers Steve!)
Seriously though - Steves gauges do look VERY nice. If it weren't for the fact that we're mates and go to shows/events a lot together, I'd probably have done something simliar myself. You now join a list of two Matt - Barry wants Steve to make him one up aswell!
If you ask Steve or Taff, I see what I want and blow the expense - it's like that with the zorst, induction kit, IC - and now the pillar pod panel and gauges. I've gone for it cos its what I thought looks best (other than Steves jobbie!) It'll look like factory kit as it blends n with the OE pillar finish. The gauges I'm getting are Blitz ID Indigo (blue). I'm opting for boost and oil emp in 60mm as thats the only size they come in (pillar that is). I'm then sending my clockset off to have them re made in the same colour - blue with white/silver markings.
I've had a chat with Steve about using the passengers vent (from the car we're breaking) in the centre and then having an Exhaust Gas Temp. gauge or the TC controller mounted there on a half sized panel.
One other thing. The Autometer gauges are, like Steve says, very nice quality but they come in 52 and 63mm. They do a pillar pod for them but its a universal one, not the whole pillar.
By the way, if you're gonna go with Steves panel and want an EGT gauge, for gods sake get the Autometer jobbies - they're about £100 instead of £200 for a japanese one.
Phew - that was long!

Sore fingers!
Forgot to mention, the Greddy A pillar pod is about £100!
Too many gauge prices to list but start at £65 + vat for a 43mm Blitz jobbie up to over £200 + vat for a 60mm Greddy oil pressure gauge.
If you want the jap stuff give me a bell - otherwise savour the Autometer value/quality and spend more money on other mods!!!

Even sorer fingers!
I read recently that the Jap 200sx come with 3 guages that fit under the head unit. Does anyone know what these are like and how I can get my grubby little mits on them? And for how much Wonga?
Don't know whether to go for these or an after market set.
Thanks,
John.

I got all my old circuit diagrams out at the weekend and was toying with the idea of a temp reading before and after the Intercooler with an lcd or led readout for each sensor. shouldnt be to hard. I like the idea of an led readout with blue orange and red leds indicating the temp. this is going in my things todo list with a water spray onto the intercooler project.

Matt j, I'll make you (and Barry) a guage panel but god knows when, Ive still got to put my car back together.
I'd wouldnt be able to cut the holes for the guages coz I dont know how many/ what size you'd be using.
Chimp, the fitting hassle is for the oil temp guage. I was badly advised about the oil pressure guage and bought a mechanical one. DONT. Get an electrical one, all you have to do is splice the wires into the original oil pressure switch. Easy http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

Fantastic... cheers everyone for your help, matt, i will be on to you soon about the pillar and advice on the gauges as you might have them by then http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif also, that colour coding sounds really cool, wanna see how it looks, and cheers to Steve, lemme know when u gat around to the panel-making, as long as you don't think i'm a copy cat, just want to be able to read gauges without causing multiple pile-ups, mind u, andyf can cause these by just driving 'sensibly'.

I see that Autometer do right hand drive gauge pods for the S14.
Do you get your Autometer stuff thru the official importer:

Autometer do an A pillar guage pod for right hand drive S13s as well.
I bought my guages from Dragon Auto (Motor?)sport in Colchester. Theyre only a mile down the road fom me. Bit handy that.
