I've seen programmes where they use some kind of special cutting wheel (on an angle grinder?) for cutting GRP and ABS bodywork pieces.

Do they have a name, and where can I get them from?

Sledgehammer to crack a nut. Try a jigsaw with a fine blade then orbital sander. Anything attached to an angle gringer is going to generate excessive heat due to the rpm involved.

possibly just a regular (thin) cutting blade used on a lower speed which will minimize any heat build up - only a problem on abs, grp cuts no problem with a regular angle grinder, it's just can be difficult to control as it cuts so fast/easily
