skirt fitting advice

After several hours of fine fitting the skirts against the body, the sides have always been a tight fit. tight to the point of cracking the corner.Its not the actual corner thats causing the stress so im wondering whether trimming the ends like this...

would make for a much better fit. any opinions before i start hacking away at something thats going to be difficult to reverse.

Also, has anybody tried to fit skirts like whats on the civic r-type, with a layer of rubber between the skirt & body.

How do you mean? Are the skirts not long enough?

Taking out the bit you suggest may help you, but if part of what's left is still incontact and too tight then you'll still have the same problem.

Is there a large build up of fibreglass/resin on the insides which could be causing a problem?
