I have a huuuuuge scratch down the side of my car and was wondering if anyone had a link to an easy removal/mask of the scratch? I was thinking of getting a touch up paint and using a very fine brush to gradually fill in the scratch then allow it to harden then wet flat with some fine paper then g whatever then use a buffer on it... Only problem is that i dont want to a) Make it worse or b) completely fook the side of the car up. I have never done anything like this before but cant afford to get it done professionally...:(

Anyone got a good guide?

its easy really just touch it up. flat it out by sanding in the scratch and around it abit and spray around the parts you flatted and t-cut it all back this will get it looking the same colour then polish up untill your happy.

if you just try to do the scratch itself you will always see it if its really deep just put abit of filler in it and sand it in. i do it all the time at work

This (http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=20127&highlight=scratch+repair) is for stone chips, but it's the same principle. It would take a brave man though.......

Has it gone through the lacquer and into the paint?

If it's just lacquer a bit of 1500/2000 grit paper and then a polish will do the trick.

Its worth ringing chipsaway or somewhere like that because they do free quotes and they can do some impressive stuff.

All depends on how deep it is...clean and dry the side of the car and have a close look at the scratch, if the scratch is white all the way along (and obviously not deep) u might be lucky and it might be lacquer deep, gently flat it out evenly with 800 grit, then another flat with 1200/1500 grit just to take the 800 flatting marks out, then machine polish it out..

if it is too deep i wouldnt bother doing anything with it, ive been painting cars for 10 years and ive never come across away of touchin in a deep scratch that looks okay, best bet is to bite the bullet and paint the side, not much work tbh anyway.
