Anyone watch vertigo the other day?? Suspense when you already know what happened - cool

Anyway, Im not here to rattle on about films - I want to talk about my delta and ask people more knowledgeable than me why it keeps trying to kill me

A little while ago as anyone at Billing will remember, I got some coilovers for my HF martini delta (£70 :D :D) and took it on a nice drop of about 60mm front and back - i didnt change any cambers etc. To start with this was fine - a little bouncy, sorta in the same way as a mini with 180 bhp :D
But I now have a couple of issues with it:
a) That the ride is hard, but the damping doesnt seem to work proper - the car after a particularly large bump will lurch back and forth once or twice - not massively but enough for me to think it isnt supposed to .......
b) The car steers itself on the entrance to corners. This, as you can imagine is rather more worrying - on the entrance to generally left hand corners, the car will turn in, then suddenly turn in harder, moving maybe 18 inches over closer to the kerb without any use of the wheel - if you arent ready for it its pretty hairy

I know next to ******** about suspension (I know next to bugger all about everything actually ) but have had dodgy track rod ends, camber of the road, camber of the wheels, toe in, toe out, too higher profile tyres and many others suggested by my mates, who to be honest wouldnt know a track rod from their elbow. So any suggestions chaps, or any ideas of where I can take it to get it fixed??
Cheers

Are the shocks adjustable?

I'd get your ass (and the car) up to Gary at SCA in Norwich and get him to look it over (the car not your ass) and do a 4 wheel alignment on it. If you have camber, toe or castor set wrong it can make the car do very odd things.

Also check your tyres for uneven wear and bulges. This can have an odd effect too.

Exactly what I was looking for mate - cheers :D
Do you have a number for him by any chance??
Tyres are brand spankers, wheels are pukka :)
The shocks are adjustable, but as far as I can see, only for height ......... which a bit shyte, I thought coilovers were more adjustable than a room full of clocks
My ass could well do with some looking at too, judging by the noises and smells that are eminating from it - in these parts, we call it "The Bubbler" :D

Dont think its anything *that* terminal - it doesnt always happen, and very rarely happens when turning right ............... Trying to race a bandit 600 at 105 mph rarely anyway
Closest Ive ever had to a tankslapper in a car

Methinks he's running too much negative camber and its tramlining, but that could well be bollox as I know f*ck all about Delta suspension.

yo yo mateee, scrabbly Torque steer reckon LOL. :)

seriously it prolly is tramlining with the camber of the road.

Erm , any way the rocking sounds a bit like too springy springs, my S13 rear does it on std shocks and uprated springs.

I also lost me IT job, so have to make do with a 56k modem and me mums computer .......... :(
Never mind eh??
BTW - I gave gary a ring and he should be sorting the delta once Ive got some money up - cheers Steve :) :)

Weez mate, how much is Gary asking? gonna get mine 4 wheel aligned as soon as i get these AGX's on. Buggered if I'm going t Ipswich though.

Oh, and did you get the wing? Or did you take yours off and then get fooked off and left mine on the car?
I'm not that fussed either way mate, just if i owe you cash then I wanna sort it out.

The Merc had a similar problem when I got it.

Midway through right hand corners it would sometimes suddenly lurch into the turn an extra 10 degrees or so.

Turned out it was the OSR lower wishbone balljoint being knackered.

It was only mid turn, when the loading transferred to the rear of the car that the hub moved - relative to the rest of it - and changed the geometry causing additional turn in.

The FWD Delta used semi trailing stub axle IRS - check it over thoroughly.

If its a track rod end or something front end related, it would do it straight away, and would be more feelable through the steering.
