i'm planning on getting the hid upgrade soon so though i'd upgrade the rest of my bulbs today so i've just ordered led stop and tail lights, and indicators all round with the new flasher unit. 2-5 working days so will post pics when they're in.:sxoc:

I hope the S14 doesn't have the same design of tail light that the S13 does, then.

The S13 has the bulbs mounted at an angle, which neatly scupper any plans anyone ever had of LED bulb replacements

I think that unless you have clear rear lights (without filter) you don't need red bulbs. The white ones will be brighter. I tried before with an old car. But i cant find white stop and tail.

The white ones will usually look pink through the red lens :p

Red didn't seem to shine up too bright with red lense.

Use a brighter LED bulb then. :p

The problem is that the red filters in the lens are designed with the assumption that whatever is behind them will have the spectrum and colour temperature of an incandescent bulb. When you put a white LED with a modern phosphur behind it, it will look pink.

You lost me! Think is stop and tail bulbs are so expensive. I need 4!

At least you will never have to buy another bulb :)

Maybe. I always use LED side light bullbs. Ones off ebay don't seem to last long.

:wack: That would almost certainly suggest some form of mechanical failure.

If you're using LED sidelights in units that are built into the headlights, possibly a heat related failure.

An average white LED will last between 8 and 11 years, a red LED anything up to 15 years.

Now, when I say "last" I mean "total cumulative time emitting light", and judging that an LED has failed when it is emitting only 70% of it's original light output.

In short, your LED sidelights should still be working long after the rest of the car has dissolved into a pile of iron oxide.

utraleds are useless, so far out of three orders I've made with them every one has been wrong to my disadvantage. They cost too much too. :( Sorry a bit off topic I know, just wanted to air my thoughts

lol Yeh would of been mechanical. Ones on Silvia are seperate to headlight.

Why not give these a try?

It also mentions that using red LEDs behind red lenses is the way to go.

If you've ordered the replacement flasher relay, it almost certainly won't work. The +ve and -ve terminals are the opposite way round on Jap cars.

SO ... WWND? (what would nicely do?).. just bosh in some replacement leds into the tail, and indicators and side lights and live with whatever comes out of that?

I've replaced the lot with LEDs. Inside and out. The rear lights are LED anyway, so needed to sort the indicators, fog, reverse and front side lights. Wasa complete PITA due to the S15 having wedge type bulbs (921s, 7440s and 7443s). Finding a red 921 LED bulb bright enough for the fog was the worst. I finally found this place (http://www.superbrightleds.com/) for quite a few bits, including an LED Jap flasher relay.

Oh, and the 501s always go...

Mmm I have had two sidelights from my s14a go from Ultraleds - power spikes possibly? They were supposedly high power ones - but this was a year or so ago.. think maybe fitting a voltage stabliser unit and SLED type ones for the side lights might be a good idea. Respect to you though - it does sound like a pain in the ass..

The current two sidelights I've got have lasted well. They're Ebay ones. But its a pot luck thing. I've had a 501 go in the boot, and that's not near anything else to be affected by heat, fluctuations, etc. The number plate has been fine too.

Sounds like quality control issues - rather than me being singled out then.. sigh.. time to find another type which might last longer then!
