View Full Version : Anyone use MS Access?
What limitations does it have? Just wondering cos I'm making a prototype in it!
VB skills at the ready!!
It's a pain when you come to networking your data, apart from that its fine if a little slow, does loads of nasty things with locking data though that are a sod to get past
Yeh, concurrency is an issue I'm currently looking into with Oracle for my dissertation cos that's what the final thing will be developed in. It's something which Oracle handles pretty well from my (limited) experience.
best off to create your tables in sql (server) if ur networking then use linked tables in ms access if your waning to use it.
I've not had too many problems with Access and I've been developing solutions and teaching it for 8 years:D:D:D
Only problems I've come across are from actual instability of Access once you get over 8 users:( up till then I've had no trouble with it.
So much for 255 concurrent users:rolleyes:
Totally agree with Vipers though, use SQL server if you have it then link to Access, much more robust:D:D:D
255 concurrent users in ms access u must be having a laff. microsoft aren't capabale of developing something like that!! ;)
the most we had on a pure ms access database shared netorked bolocksy crap thing was 20
was absolutly crap database wasted a huge and rediculous asmount of resources, free'd up about 50% resources when we got rid of it!!
we are now running goldmine intergrated into transaction broker and horizons accounts
goldmines now running off of sql used to be dbase and horizons and Trans Broker are on omnis.
very clever system if it worked properly ;) but we also have about 5 other databases running off of the goldmine data using ms access and linked tables and a vb front ended app looking at the sql tables which also is quite cool if u like that sorta thing
