Hi All!

Last year we tried to get a Japanese intermarque sprint series together but managed to run out of time before we could get it up and running. There was quite a bit of interest shown on this board (see thread here (http://www.sxoc.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=175656))

This year we've got our act together a bit better, and we've got approval for a MSA sanctioned sprint championship. It consists of six dates predominantly in the Midlands and South East (North Weald, Debden, Bentwaters, Silverstone and the like).

Sprinting is an excellent and inexpensive entry into competitive motorsport, is a more rounded discipline than drag racing as you have to negotiate corners and allows you to find the boundaries of your car in relative safety.

There are 3 classes: Standard (induction and filter), Road (road tyres, MoT, tax) and Max (slicks, aero, carbon, etc).

You will need an MSA non race national B licence, £34, membership of the organising club, Harrow Car Club, (£15), fireproof overalls (proban ones are cheapest),a helmet (can borrow one off a biker friend if you don't own one) and a timing strut for the car (generally homemade).

Events generally cost in the region of £60-£80 and include practice and timed runs, best to count.

If you have a definite interest, I would advise applying for the MSA licence ASAP as they take 15 working days to turn around. (There is a three day turnaround option but it adds to the price by  a lot)

For further details, please visit www.clubracer.co.uk (http://www.clubracer.co.uk). Questions can be asked here or sent to andy AT clubracer.co.uk (although might not get a chance to check e-mail this weekend, so you'll probably get a quicker reply here!)

Hoping to see some of you at an event.

Cheers

Andy and Spencer.

Sounds good to me

Although I'm committed elsewhere for 2007.

Cheers for the reply SM, I heard it helps to be committed before taking part in these things, something to do with the nut behind the wheel :D Sorry I should probably leave the jokes to someone else...

Do your plans include time attack for this year? No clashes with our stuff as far as I am aware

C'mon guys, be good to get the SXs represented!

Hi jrtuning, thanks for the interest

Yes, unfortunately I've tied these events in with the regional associations in the South of England. If this year is successful, it would be good to hook up with a sprint-organising motor club in the North of England to run a sister championship. I know there are a few guys on MLR who do sprints in the North; we could then divide the championship into a North and South, plus a National based on selected rounds of both series.

I think there is a lot of scope for these kinds of events, and if we can make a success of it this year, it should be possible to build on this

Also, if anyone has any suggestions of other boards that might be interested... I need to chase down where the 300ZX and Sunny GTiR owners hang out!

MEL, the car doesn't have to be yours of course, you just need to find some very trusting friends who will lend you theirs :D

damo, safety rules are as follows:

If the car is fully road legal, taxed and MoT'd, there are no specific requirements, as long as everything is secure and bits aren't likely to drop off, there should be no problem!

If the car is not road legal, the car must have an MSA approved roll cage and hand-held fire extinguisher (plumbed in preferred but not mandatory).

There are a few other bits and pieces, but nothing that can't be sorted in a few minutes Blue Peter style - scrutineers like to see a little label by the ignition indicating the direction the key should be turned to switch the engine off, a bit of yellow insulating tape on the earth strap between the battery and the body, and an orange disk on the side of the car if you have pure methanol in the car. Oh and NOS is banned (bottle will have to be removed from the car if fitted).

Safety rules for the driver are more strict, with crash helmet and fireproof overalls being mandatory.

Someone raised a good question on another forum - noise rules - these are laid down by the MSA at 108dB(A) at 0.5 metre, 45 degrees from the exhaust. It is possible that some venues will have stricter rules, although I'm sure that North Weald and Silverstone are going to be at this level.
