View Full Version : Floods
Every bloody where!!
Tried 4 different ways to get in to work today before finding a route which wasn't impossible to get through because of floods a foot deep
Some will starts being tidal if they get much bigger ;) :D
Any one else had probs today? Is it this bad everywhere?
nah mate, I live on the top of a hill in t' north, besides it ain't raining that much up here anyway, seems like it's the South bearing the brunt....:(
Yup
Its wet... and soggy.... and several feet deep...
i live at the top of a hill, a hill made of clay... the poor are going to have to be equipped with water wings soon....
I didn't realise it was that bad round here mate! Where's it flooded between Longwell Green and Bath then? I'm guessing at the bottom of Willsbridge Hill, for a start?

Swinford was underwater. So was Golden Valley Lane (Bitton) in 2 places (tried to get round it and found another flood  ). Wick was only half submerged so I went that way ;)
If it gets much worse I may have to buy some paddles and row my S13 home this evening  :D

Went for a drive yesterday and hit the muther of all puddles, about 40ft long and about a 1foot deep in places. I just dropped it into 1st kept the revs up and ploughed through, I had to turn the traction control off though and use the brute force method. Im sure I was bloody floating at one point.
Just as I got out a white van decided he was going to hit it full pelt, he made it to the middle went sideways and stopped:D :D and stayed there.
the misses would have had a job this morning (getting to work, not a poo)......she works at hartpury, the only main road in is low lying and right next to the severn, the next best way would also have been impassable, so guess she'd have gone via the newent road........ and just to cheer you up, wheather man (girlie) reckons its gonna piss down all day in the south and that the north are gonna get bucket loads of snow..........

well you've heard of permafrost...well this seems like permarain.
I did come accross 1 road that was flooded in warwick, there were signs saying it was closed so I drove past to go see, just after I turned round I saw a medium size family hatch back drive through it quite purposefully, it looked about a 18" deep max maybe a foot but more, the car made it ok. I remember a story my dad told me of when he tried to cross a flooded ford crossing in a landrover and got swept off and into the river and had to swim out... him and the dog...he always was a bull****er tho...probably got drunk and drove off the edge!
lets put it this way , if i get flooded you lot are fecked
an example of local extreme weather is the fact that i drove my range rover across a frozen reservoir
A WORD OF WARNING!
One of my Fathers customers had a BMW 750 (W-Reg) and drove it through a large puddle last year. It killed the engine badly!
It had to have a brand new engine! (Something like £20,000 or something and was not covered by the warranty)!
Be Careful with your pride and joys!
Went trhough 3 floods yesterday getting home.
Interesting point on the first one...
Starts off through flood (Follwing another car so can see how deep.) ,flood goes around a bend (Cars infront still moving), look to the other side of the road which is a bit lower and see a Current shape 3 series BMW with water up to the window line broken down, look ahead and relise that the water is a least up to the sill if not higher and just hope that i don't break down.

yep. water can get sucked in through the air filter if you plough into the water quickly or someone with a large vehicle eg van, 4x4 decides to drive at full speed on the opposite side of the road causing a massive wake. also if your car does stall and you try to fire it up you'll suck up water through your exhaust pipe. I think the best way is to drive slowly and keep the revs high by slightly dipping the clutch... should prevent any water getting in the exhaust. all the best!

About 3 years ago, I was travelling home from Wisbech, back to Essex. Decided to go cross country relatively speaking, because of an accident on the A1. Got as far as a village called 3Holes I think, went round a bend and saw a "Road Flooded" sign chucked in the hedge. Didn't think much of it, was getting dark, wanted to get home etc etc. Went a bit further a couldn't work out why the road was so quiet. Didn't pay much attention to that either.
No-one told me the road gets flooded at Welney in the winter months, so I goes bowling along, bit of water on the road, another few hundred yards and the kerbs disappeared. Oh well, I thought, can't get much deeper, I'll carry on. Another half a mile up the road and the water was lapping at the windows. Made it through though, although a bit of water did start to get in around doors.
Got to the garage at Littleport, (had to stop for more smokes, it was that stressful), bloke in garage happens to notice leaves and other ****e creating a sort of tidemark on the car. Told him where I'd just come from, he more or less called me a liar. Turns out the road had been shut for about 2 weeks!
