Well I thought I should start a proper thread now I've got the car.

Here are some pics of it before cleaning (it's a bit of a state in the pics but I'm mid cleaning it now - it's sat in the garage being clayed it's too bloody cold to be doing the whole job outside)

first impressions are:

It'll catch you out fairly viciously on the 2nd turbo - Chris nearly crashed it on the test drive with some moderately heavy right foot (didn't want to rag it as the engine is new), we were VERY sideways :wack:
luckily it handles well and so is very catchable when you are sideways unintentionally :smash: :D
the lights are SHIIIITE - they make the 200 look like daylight
cloth seats :smitten: forgotten how slidey and horrible leather really is
the drivers seat isn't as nice a place to be as it was in my 200, but that's being sorted sharpish :)

There are one or two problems I've found with the car:

nearside wingmirror doesn't work (as in it doesn't move when you press the buttons in the car)
wipers don't work on intermediate, only on the other 2 speeds
one of the pillowball bushes are shot on the nearside rear :( (there's six of them, no idea which one is buggered yet though hopefully only one - they're £55 each :hurl: )

Oh anyone know how easy it is to get a kmph to mph conversion? I have no idea how fast I'm going at the moment :wack:

I also nearly flooded it this morning moving it out of the garage for the alarm to be fitted :smash:

It was your thread that prompted me to sell the 200 and get one :) So I've got you to blame when it all goes horribly wrong :wack: :D

if you're in bristol, i know of many places who can do the conversion. i actually have a few of the electrical conversion boxes myself but unfortunately i havent got instructions on installing them in an FD, otherwise i'd do it myself.

Protech in Nailsea will be able to do it for you no problem (http://www.protech-uk.co.uk/)

hmm for £160 I think I can live without a mph speedo for now :wack: sticky bits of paper it is

is this what you mean in the way of instructions http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32273&highlight=speedo+conversion

That's fooking nice Rob!

I'll possibly be doing a speedo conversion in the near future - simply changing the dial though ;)
much cheaper

Nearside mirror might just be a case of having the wiring checked. When I bought one of mine, it appeared to have had a different set of mirrors on at some point, which weren't electric. Took the doorcard off, plugged the wires back in and it worked.

Dodgy wipers is a known problem, i've had that on both of them. And the best way to remove the limiter is to get a PowerFC :wack:. Don't bother getting the speedo converted, as anything over 180kmh is going to get you banned anyway :wack: . If you're that desperate, just look for a set of clocks with the different dials, as both of mine were the same model, the same age, but had different clocks :?

I want to remove the 112mph restriction though (which the conversion does) - although I think the powerFC does that too....

Did you manage to fix your wipers or do I just have to live with it?

I'll be taking the doorcard off over the weekend and seeing what's what

sounds like a good excuse for a powerFC then...and I was going to keep this car fairly standard

Nah, didn't bother fixing it. Lets be fair, not the sort of car I want to be driving quickly in the rain in :wack:

PowerFC removes the limiter, but doesn't convert the speedo. easy enough to remember the speeds though

so it is, I hadn't noticed that :wack:

I think a powerFC is in order then once I've sorted out the problems

It's too slow for tatsu at the minute I think :( :ghey: (gentle driving only at the minute and low revs till it's run in)

And I suspect the interior will be in pieces then unless I get everything done this weekend :wack:

Clean, simple, beautiful. I hate you :D

Now get a post 99 spec front bumper and some low offset dishu's, and it'll be perfect  :smitten:

The wheels are being sorted and I suspect you'll hate them ;)

I'm keeping the bumper old skool for now (well at least till next year when I've got some more cash and I'm sure the car is running ok :) )

I actually really like advan's on FD's :o First set i ever saw was on a black fd - black centres, red lips. They looked fcuking mint  good choice.
If you do anything else to the bodywork apart from maybe a Feed carbon splitter, and teh 99 bumper, i will be forced to hunt you down and steal your car :D

dhracer
20-03-2007, 22:15
They're ok I suppose, I'd like more bite  I'll be sorting that out at some point (I thought the brakes on the 200 were shite and these aren't that much better IMO - the car hasn't been driven recently though so I'll be bleeding the brakes soon)

Not happy about these pillow balls though, I can't understand why it's so expensive for such a crappy simple part :annoyed:

Rob that looks the dogs danglers mate!
Can't wait to see in the flesh, and a pasanger ride when the engine is run in :wack: .
Where did you get the wheels done by the way? I need the centres on my refurb project powder coates at some point in the future.
Rich

I was warming it up in my hands, how warm does it need to be

It should be soft and easy to work... if the clay is hard and difficult to work then it will cause marring and scratching...

Split it in two and stick it in a tub of hot water ... keep one bit in the water and use the other then swap when it gets cold... and so on...

Absolutely essential with clay with the temperatures we are experiencing at the moment.
