...it's YOUR fault!

A bloke I know works for an Insurance Company and he got done himself; some daft woman drove into him in a carpark and, BECAUSE he said he was reversing, he's found out (at renewal time) that he's 100% liable!

His NCB is no more!

His advice - NEVER say you were reversing at the time of impact, just say you were STATIONERY.

ALSO (while I'm at it) a FIREMAN told me last Xmas that if you have a prang and Plod breathalise you and you are under the limit but have had a drink this is noted by the Insurance people.

They then view you as a greater risk.

ALSO, if there is a 50-50 dispute on the accident then it counts AGAINST YOU.

Just worth knowing, that's all.:(

Just an addition, after being hit by a bus!!!!!!!!!!!

Any fare paying passenger carrying vehicle ie a bus!!!! that is involved in an accident has to be taken out of circulation and passengers put in alternate transport until the vehicle has been checked.

The bus that hit me carried on with his passangers inside after our incident so I'll be using that if they attempt to get out of my claim against them.

That's a bit big brother isn't it? I suppose the insurance company get copies of the Police incident reports.

they know everything mate, they all share the info among themselves, if you get pulled by plod, before they even pseak to you they know wether you got any tax, any insurance, any convictions (criminal or road traffic related), wether the cars reported for anything (ie:declared off road ) they know who the last keeper was, when you purchased the vehicle, if its in the hands of a dealer it will have an in trade marker against it...the list is endless....

this will get worse very very shortly... anyone been to tax their car lately and seen that you cant tax now without a valid V5 doc in your name?

Reason - Motor insurers database - goes live soon and can tell what type of corn you drop in ur crap!

as for the claims..... its not always the case if ur reversing but its the 99% rule. The 50-50 bit, yeah, still counts against you as a fault claim, its the insurance co's way of laffing their nuts off over a claim, you both get knocked for increased premiums, you both lose ur ncd you both pay more back into the kitty to cover the claim - good scam eh? now you see why so many claims are settled this way.

If I operated my business the way insurance companies operate theirs, at the very least I'd be guilty of malpractice and probably be comitting a criminal offence (collaborating together to increase profits at the expense of third parties, falsly apportionaing blame in order to defraud the customer etc.etc.).

So why the hell aren't these companies ever taken to court?

because insurance is a contract you sign by their rules, which gives them the right under road traffic act obligations to act as they see fit to deal with claims - the way they see may not be the way you see.... but you signed the damn proposal and therefore you are tied by their terms and conditions.

Basically, Insurers are well and truly sh!t scared of the GISC/ABI and any other governing body so they are well up on the RTA laws and how legally to deal with claims - its just convenient that the "best" way for them happens to be the most profitable:rolleyes:

ooohhh don't get me started. The insurance companies have you over a barrel - you have to buy insurance by law and they can tell you whatever price they like and you have to swallow it (so to speak;) )

You pay your premium in advance of needing the services of the insurance companies and if you don't need them they get your money for doing virtually nothing. If you do need to use the service you have already paid for they make you pay some of the money yourself anyway and then increase your premium next year in order to claw back the money they paid out - a chunk of which you gave them in the first place!

BTW I know it probably isn't as simple as that but I do like a good rant occasionally

I wish I had £1/2 million spare so I could thumb my nose and not have insurance.

Apparently, if you have £100k of liquid capital you can set yourself as an ins company. When I get some more cash I'll do this, and insure myself :D

not quite true keith

you can actually set up a BOND for £100k - which is held by an intermediary and used as a pot for claims. However, you still need AT LEAST £10m indemnity under the road traffic act - so you would have to insure yourself with a £100k excess on third party bodily injury or property damage.

would significantly reduce premiums i would think :D £100k excess anyone? ;)

Doh - ah well, just means I'll have to get 10m spare rather than 100k ;)
