Have you got a Virus Checker?

If you haven't then you really do need one!

My Father's PC has just died and was infected with over 100 virus's!

A great free one is AVG Antivirus 6.0. It's 5megs in size.

Download from:

www.grisoft.com

(Download the FREE version, not the trial).

Norton is good (but you have to pay money).

So many people I know just don't want to pay the cash for it, plus the extra payments to continue to get updates!

My post is more for these people.

If you can get Norton then do, as it is v.good.

;) :) :) :) :)

Personally, I like AVP, or KAV as it's called now. Pretty cheap for a single user licence, and free updates. Pretty cheap for multi-user licence as well. I use it in work. http://www.avp.ch if you fancy a nosey.

you can (ahem;) ) download norton 2003 pro off any decent peer 2 peer site. It comes with a symantec live update which updates itself every now and again with new anti-viruses, and also you can set it do a virus check daily/ weekly or monthly at your specified time, saves you £40, and your computer.

Yeah but I renewed my subscription to Norton and it still wouldn't download the definitions. Tech support is wrongly named and they ended up asking me to phone Canada!!
Gave up and I'm running AVG now.

The best current Virus Checker on the enterprise market is Sophos.

It's quite cheap too.

BTW, part of my previous job was Virus Control implementor, so I actually used and assesed a lot of products, Symantec came in a close second btw.

Always thought Sphos was more geared to networks rather than home pc's though. Didn't stop my work pc picking a virus up but then I thknk work only bothers to update it twice a year  Hope they're not reading this!!

Sophos is a 2 part product, with PC protection and Network integration, the PC Protection is exemplary, as long as you keep your IDE files updated....
