View Full Version : Your previous car?????
what was Your previous car before your 200sx??? how did you here about the SX's???
W plate primera sport.
First heard about the 200SX when going sideways in GT3 :D
toyota corolla gti-16 AE92 - loved it to bits (no, honest i did)
first saw an SX in the gravel pit at southend when i was a wee lad, doin dognuts for the croud. Knew id have an SX one day after that.
When id outgrown the 'rolla i had a hunt round for a motor and was gonna go for a cossie..... then suddenly realised this could be the day ive been waitin for, went to have a look at a couple and eventually got the "thorn in my side" i have now - still love it to bits tho :) why else would i throw about £6k at it? ;)

306 HDi no honest I did, though I was doing 700 miles a week. It went well and did an average of 650-700 miles on one tank of gas :)

I was running a turbo'd rover before the sx. A turbo diesel that is!
I mainly found out about the sx after working with nissan for a couple of years. Its only taken me 6 year after that to go get one!
Do I like the car? Yeah :) Bit dissapointed with its 0-60, but 60 plus I love :D
escort rs turbo s2 (sorry, no baseball cap) 210bhp, spent too much money to get to that.
my m8 had a 200sx ( now albinobatmans!! ), just could'nt resist..
oh yeh, the sound of the nur spec :) :) ;) :) :) :D :D :D
astra gls & r5gt turbo, still got renault and gearbox to put back in it when i get 5 mins! said that 3 years ago :( spent ages looking for a turbo again, wanted something different, quick, luxury an all in one package really? did'nt think it was possible till i looked at one of these, never looked back since!!!
I had a 405 Mi16, brilliant revvy fun, ,but it was near to drawing its pension so it had to go. Had Lexus IS200 as my daily drive for work though, very nice until someone parked it through a Corsa and inside a tree.
I was offered an S13 with 16k on the clock, but was mad for an S14a after i saw one parked next to the Skyline I couldn't afford.
Love it
once you go jap, you never go back. :D :D :D

T reg Rover 416 .. had it for 3 months and hated every single minute of it. :)
Renault 19 16v.... yeah I know!
The words "build" & "quality" are mutually exclusive when it comes to this car.
It was a pretty good one though, only broke down twice in the 10 months I had it.

hehe i had the Chamade version before the Rover, was a good fun car.
Shame the electrical loom system decided to catch fire whilst going up the M2 :(
:)
Last other car I had was a 3 litre Camry, but it was a company car overseas while I had the SX in storage.
Last car before my 200SX was my...erm...nova 1.2 saloon. Bog standard. I had it as a run about while I was saving. The shame!
Heard about the 200SX from my stepdad - who owned one when they first bought them out.

how'd you know arry:confused:
I had a BMW 520i. Was an old beast but reasonably comfy. Saw 200 S13 in local garage and fell in love with it but wasn't sure if I should. My 15 year old son convinced me to buy it (cor dad it's a turbo & it looks great!) - he has better taste than I thought!

Honda Civic VTEC hatch. Thought it was fast when I first had it. Thought it was slow by the time I sold it
Looked at 200 ages ago and thought "that looks understated and fast" but I couldn't afford the insurance. Gran Turismo got me interested in one again (after thoughts of turbocharging my Honda passed :D ) and I decided to import one because I liked the look and condition of a lot of the Jap imports coming over.
I had a vw beetle 1974 with an 1.8 race prepared engine(rolled it 6 times and shattered my knee punctured my lung and fractured the back of my skull.:D) Then a fiesta RS turbo. Then a golf gti 8v. Then a porche 944 s2 and know my s14a 1999 200sx. only been driving a couple off year and still just 22 not bad going.:D

1st car in Japan U11 Bluebird w/CA18ET
2nd 1988 Silvia Q's w/CA18DE auto tranny
3rd 1990 Silvia Q's w/CA18DE Manual tranny (later converted the car to a CA18DET)

5th 1988 Nissan A31 Cefiro w/RB20DET auto tranny
6th 1994 RPS13 180SX w/SR20DET and manual tranny.
It's been a steady progression towards greatness :)

whats an RPS13??? is it the same engine as our???
Renault 19 16v hatch here which I had for over 3 years. Old beat up XR2 before that 'cos I went and bought a brand new GSXR750 (which I duly killed!). Couple of Astra GTE 16v's before that when they were still quite new.
When I got rid of the Ren it was a toss up between the 200 and Fiat 20v turbo Coupe. I'm quite happy with my choice so far:)
1st: 1.7 not turbo Cavalier old W reg
2nd: 1.5TD Nova... quicker than an xr2 off the lights... dunno why but it was REALLY fast, for what it was anyway.
3rd: 1.6 MKII Escort ghia, my rwd initiation :D
4th: mazda 121. The one that's now a Kia pride... don't ask:rolleyes:
5th: E30 320.
Forgot how much i loved rwd so i stopped pi55ing all my money up the wall and got my 200 :D

My last car (not including run aounds when the 200 has been off the road :( ) was a '88 BMW 320i, I only modded the filter/zorst/brakes/suspension I did want to fit a Shrick cam but it cost £450!!!!
i had a 10th anniversary Limited edition Toyota MR2 (only 200 odd ever made) with all the mod cons, like T-bar and full leather etc i bought it in December 2001 with 21,000 miles on the Clock and it was a 1996 (N). Had it 2 Months and wrote it off when i lost it round a corner :( :( :( :(
In reverse order:
1989 Moonstone Blue RWD Sapphire Cosworth - K&N, Mongoose, stage3 chip, t3/4 turbo, running 22psi boost, Blisteins, fully polybushed right the way through..etc.etc.
1992 Caribbean Blue Rover 214SLi 16v
1970 Orange Mini Cooper 'S' replica - Cooper 'S' brakes, 1275 MG Metro engine, buckets, cage, 10" minilites, adjustable suspension, RC40 exhaust etc etc.
1990 Flame Red Rover Mini Cooper - K&N, RC40 exhaust, uprated suspension.
1985 White Vauxhall Nova 1.2 - Full Spax suspension kit, 14" carlton alloys, wide low profile tyres. Underpowred but went round corners nice, and flew over speed-bumps in a very nice controlled way :)
Ummm and thats about it.. Oh, i had another 1970 mini 1000, but it never got driven on the road :(
Cheers
Prior to the 200 I had a Saxo VTR bought brand new......NEVER AGAIN!
Prior to that, a company car - Hyundai Lantra estate!
Prior to that, a Ford Fezzy 1.1!
and Prior to that, a lovely Metro 1.0!
What a history eh ;)
Started out at 17 with a 1.7 Morris Ital HLS. Rear Pramwheel Drive!!!
2nd car was embarrasingly a Ford Orion GLSi. Couldn't afford to run anything else with a crash and 6 points on the license.
If all goes to plan I'll be keeping the 200 forever and getting something la little more practical for day to day stuff.
Alg;)

1973 Mini 1000 with twin SU's, large bore exhaust....still ridiculously slow but brilliant handling on 6 x 10's.
1974 Mini 1275GT bored to 1312cc, Weber 32/34DMTL carby, mystery modified headand cam, featherweight flywheel and clutch.
Astra GTE 16V destroyer up to 70mph....:p...... scariest thing I've ever driven at 100mph +
1983 Manta GTE....Modified with Carlton 2.2 engine bored to 2.3 litre. Modified head, Kent OP234 Rally Cam, modified plenum and throttle body, 2 3/8 exhaust, lightened flywheel. RR'ed at 145bhp, up from 110bhp. Uprated suspension and brakes blah blah.
S13's all the way from now though ;)

RPS13 is the coupe version of the s13 Silvia in japan - i.e. what we know as the S13 200SX here. Available with the CA18 DET, and later the facelift ones has the SR20 in them.

Jap cars rule! If once fallen in love you'll never go without...
I have had many cars before. The most recent in reverse order were:
-Nissan 200SX S13 Have had it many years. Had to go for the S14a.
-Toyota Supra Mk3 Very nice car, especially the engine. Turboed six bangers in a row. Some minor tweeks and it ran 290km/h. And it was loud as hell with a selfmade exhaust, absolutely badass. I set off many alarms at the local parking lots. A guy crashed into the parked car in front of my house. Bang, wasnt worth the repair. Sold it in pieces and got more money from it once spent...
And my all time favorite:
-Nissan Pulsar GTI-R Very small and lightweight car with SR20DET engine and all wheel drive! It should put out 270-290bhp in the moment. Dunno exactly cause I did not RRded it after the last tweeks. I still own and use it during winters. Its so much fun to drive, I luv this car.
I am really lookin forward to test drive the new japs next year. Nissan 350Z and Mazda RX-8. Damn thatll be fun

My last car was a mint white S13 with Tein HR suspension, 17s, K+N, stereo, etc, etc...
Before that I had a POS orion 1.6L
A 1990 Bluebird Turbo. A very underestimated car which gave many 200's a scare (after a little work on the handling).
Not bad considering it was only group 10 to insure.

Actually the R-is for the pop-up headlight version hatchback.
RS13 - CA18DET
RPS13 - SR20DET
Turbo Technics tuned RS Turbo fast as fcuk but ate gear boxes for fun and quite unreliable really, next car S12 Silvia so the S13 200SX was a natural progression after that !
1976 Allegro 1300 (BROWN!!!!)
1982 Escort 1.1
1982 Golf GTI 1600, I had an 1800 unit installed as I blew up the 1600.
1989 Golf GTI 16v
1990 Pug 1.9 GTI
1992 Imported Civic VTI 1500. Had Mugen exhaust and Mugen RNR lightweight alloys when I bought it.
Got to be the biggest contrast! Before I got the S13 I was driving a left-hand drive VW Kombi fully loaded as a camper...
Sitting on the left, 2 metres off the ground, 0-60 in about 5 minutes, top speed of about 70mph, fuel consumption even worse than the ***** being thrashed(!). However it did have much more comfortable beds and kitchen in which you could brew up a cuppa while waiting to get to the aforementioned top speed ;).

Missus reckons it was cos I was having an early midlife crisis though :(  :D
Since I passed my test in '89 i've had
Mini 1275gt (fun)
Escort Mk1 1600 sport (learnt the art of powersliding, then did a bit too much and wrote it off!)
Cavalier MK1 2 litre (practised the art of powersliding, then crashed! )
Datsun Laurel 2.4 heap(smoooth)
Vauxhall Chevette 1.3 (evil)
Mk1 Fiesta XR2(stolen)
Mk3 Escort 1.6 (crap)
Vauxhall Astra 1.3l (even more crap, was glad when it was stolen)
Mk2 Fiesta XR2 (scrabble!)

Volvo 360 2.0 (shiiiiiete but nippy!)
Talbot Samba (5000 miles for £100 aint bad!)
Pug 205 Ralleye (Blew it up, Twice!)
Escort Mk4 1.8d estate(by far the worst car I have ever driven)
Escort Mk5 TD (rep job, rubbish build quality)
Mondeo Mk2 TD (see above,comfy)
Focus TD (about the only Ford I would have again, but not TD!)
Pug 306 DTurbo (handling)
Saab 900 Turbo 16V (proper modifications 235 BHP!,very scrabbly!)
Now
91 S13 200sx
88 VW polo 1.0L !

Er, no. Not really.:(
Granada 2.0Ghia The most unfashionable car around but I liked it. Stuymac lived in my road and when I was pissed stumbling home after a night out I used to admire it so got one when 2 years no claims popped up. Love it but saving for a 300 now

My first car was a Nissan Sunny 1.3 in exactly the same colour as my 200. Great fun. Used to be able to beat Nova 1.3 sr's at the lights.
Then It was on to the Cav Sri, that was great fun too, this car tought me how to drive and we went through many pant filling experiences together.
Then onto the 200sx.It was the fastest and cheapest thing I could get my hands on without going too mad on insurance either.
And nowadays I'm blasting about:rolleyes: in my citroen AX saving money to spend on the 200.

In fact I loved it so much I bought another one!
Well my last mota was an old F reg XR2. Great engine, was still on original gearbox after 10 years. Exhaust lasted 10years the clutch lasted 11. Great car... pity about the rust:(
Also been into bikes in a big way as well... Currently R1 but before that had a Thunderace which I managed to spectacularly kill in a multiple pile up on the A127:( Got the A127 shut for an hour though :D:D:D:D and I had a pic of my smashed up bike in the Echo

Corolla GT 16v, 87' model without power steering. If it hadn't gone rusty underneath, I'd probably have still had it. Not that quick, but wonderful sounding engine and soooo much fun.
I tried a 200 when they were first out (about 89') whilst my car was in for servicing. I'd never driven anything so fast in a straight line before. Unforutunately they were 16k at the time (new), so had to wait another 13 years for one...

well my list goes like this
mk2 escort
austin 1300 meastro - with go faster stickers
new pug 106 diesel
nova 1.5td with gsi gearbox, fidlled fuel pump , uprated boost and gauge, went like **** off a shovel.
montego turbo's x2 both with loads of boost and holes etc.
couple of mk3 escorts
rover 800 v6 2.7 , straight through exchuast,superchip etc.
rover 800 turbo , loads of boost, pipercross etc
mk1 golf gti
mk1 golf 5 door, big alloys , fkippy paint.
x3 scirocco's last one having 220bhp @ wheels and a quarter mile of 14.46, which ain't 2 bad
and some other stuff like a metro
got a house now, so moneys goes on that instead, oh and my 2*****
jim:D
Think i may be a contender for the biggest car gap, my first and only car untill my S14a was a long wheelbased land rover defender, played with turbo of course, used to leave a carbon line along motorways, but did 95!
Now i have the 2*****, and a 1981 landrover i am rebuilding, couldn't resist it, had to keep the landy thing alive!
Heard about the 2***** when searching for a change of car, experienced a change of lifestyle, farm to graphic design, was looking at an Audi A4 1.8T, then i saw the light, thank god for sx's!
People seem to have differing opinions about insurance for these things, but its the cheapest performance car i have found, looked at a scooby, liked the 4x4 thing, but was over £2k insurance.
My final thought, buy a nice car before your too old to appreciate it, AND girlfriend loves it (as do her fit mates :D , my dogs however.......... will never know what the inside looks like!)
