Quite.

In case anyone is puzzled by this thread, I believe it stems from an earlier closed thread started by maximus200sx which was a Bikes vs. Car thread.

As there have been similar threads in the past, I'm sure most people know what happens - arguments. Starts off fine - you can buy a bike and get more performance per pound than a car. This is a fact. But then all hell breaks loose, modified cars come into the equation, ferrari's being unable to out drag a superbike etc etc and it's one flame after another.

maximus: thread's get closed when tempers raise and flare in response to comments. There is NO reason to leave a thread open and have people start to insult one another constantly.
Bike vs Car threads are one of the easiest ways to start an all-out flame war.

I'd like to remind everyone that this is the Bulletin Board system for the Nissan 200SX Owners Club, the SXOC. As such, we have multiple forums for posting in relation to the car.

The Non200sx Related forum is for, and I quote, "non 200sx related chat". I don't see "Car X vs Car Y" threads that develop into slanging matches as "chats".

I think it's great that people can find the board and find useful information on it which may help them decide whether to buy a 200sx, and possibly go on to become SXOC members. It's great that people can come along and see general questions and discussions about many cars and learn something new. It's not great when people come to the board for the first time, see (for example) a bike vs car thread, and with curiosity start to read. Once they start reading comments from people who, let's say, take a dislike to 'cyclists and threaten to run them off the road ... well, it's not good.
Likewise, claiming you drove at above triple digit speeds on public roads with a disrespectful attitude towards authority is just going to attract the WRONG kind of attention.

Plus flame wars use bandwidth, and literally cost money while serving no purpose.

*cough* sorry, didn't mean to drag this out, but felt maybe I should make a comment in response to maximus' communism comments. There are no blocks in place to let people register on the board, and start posting about practically anything. I'd like to think I could trust everyone with a login to use some thought when posting and not start off-the-cuff insult threads against one another.
