Everytime I mention that bikes are faster than cars then people seems to get a bit upset. So rather than pinching somebody else's thread I thought I would start one dedicated to the above subject.
So my point of view is that bikes rule, hello Dai, because there is no contest, not even a Ferrari can beat a bike unless the road is very long and straight, OK I can "only" do 170, but I can accelerate soooo fast that four wheels can look on in amazement. Bikes are faster round corners, on starights in the dry, AND in the wet. You can drift a bike if you have the balls for it and you can have lots of fun teasing the old bill. Wheelies, stoppies, burnouts, donuts etc.... are all fun too. So do bikes rule? I think so.

BUT, as it has been pointed out you can only have 2 people on a bike, well I go slow with a passenger whether on the bike or in a car, couldn't live with somebody's death on my hands...

Crashing, well if you're gonna die, die with your boots on, as well as helmet leathers, gloves etc.... well with alll the potective gear it is actually quite safe. You can die in a car too....

BUT, I do love to drive fast and the buzz from a Turbo on full chat is soooo adictive, that sometimes the only thing that slows me down is the fuel gauge.
And yes cars are nice and warm, comfy got music tv playstation etc etc. just what you need while you're stuck in traffic chugging on car fumes and watching all the bikes pass you by.

So do bikes rule, well yes in my opinion they do, but cars are a close second.

I love bikes too, but I wouldn't ride in this country due to the sheer amount of traffic on the roads these days.

And I hate being cold and wet!

um... not according to that clarkson video... R1 vs lardy 911 Carrera 4. bike lost... just. problem was that only having two wheels meant it was slower round corners. on the straights it pulled away... the race was on thruxton which is the straightest, fastest circuit in the uk... ie perfect for a bike!

anyway personally I always say if i bought a bike on monday i'd be riding a coffin on friday. so i'm sticking to cars! plus in winter its horrid riding a bike. rather be nice and snuggly warm in a car, with a decent sound system. and in summer i'll take the roof off in my tvr and not have to wear a helmet. yes bikes are quicker off the line, but whenever i've taken on a bike with the tvr while i know i will lose, they ultimately have to put their life on the line in order to safe face... whether its having to end up putting so much power down to pull away that they wheelie (not really safe IMO) or corner so hard that they virtually have their head in front of my bumper...

still, all good fun :)

I remember watching a program that had Carl Fogarty driving a Renault Luguna touring car round a track and going 20mph faster on most bends than his Ducati at the time could.

Also every race I've had with bikes all end when we got to a bend and they slam the brakes on.

3 of my mates have decent bikes (600s +) and they agree that cars are faster round the bends. On a straight there isnt any argument though.

Fair point, well not really.

The problem with that video was that they were on the track at the same time, I wouldn't have even tried, the "fair" way to do it is with timed laps.
And I'm sure you could put a car and bike against each other and get any result you wish, but I am taking about day to day use on the road, going to work, just out for some fun etc. There are so many factors that affect the result, but here are the facts

I have a fireblade, costing about £7k when new, and there's nothing that can beat me in a normal road race no matter what the cost is. Simple aint it

As for wheelies, safe, no. But racing isn't safe is it

You've obviously never raced anyone who could drive very well, simple ain't it. :)

what does it matter what everyone else thinks? if you feel that bikes are faster and better than cars then great for you - well done....

but what i dont see is making a big point of it on a CAR orientated forum??   It seems that every other thread you have commented on turns the topic from something car related to bikes...

not trying to be offensive - but thats just the way i see it.

The ppl on this board are together in a common interest for cars - although some may well like bikes also. Surely if you would like to discuss bikes at great detail you should be doing so on a bike forum?

Plus I hate motorcyclists, so when you try to overtake me I'll just knock you off and make your family pay for the dent in my door :p

"Everytime I mention that bikes are faster than cars then people seems to get a bit upset"

I assume you mean me.

I tried to explain, so i'll do it again........

Bikes DO NOT rule as you say.

Yes, they can accelerate more quilcky than cars, you can get monster performance for little money, but they have other downfalls as have been posted here.

Also, as i said in the other post,

No fun in the wet/ice/snow, max of 2 people, cant do 140mph, or 0-60 in 6 secs with the weeks shopping from ASDA in/on them, etc.

My mate with the EXUP wont take it out inless it's dry:eek:

I'm sure most peeps here (me included) would love to have a bike for the thrills etc.

But they do not rule.

All IMHO :D :D :D

Indeed. This thread is going nowhere. Have a look at the video to see what a couple of grands worth of mods to my car could achieve.

Besides, if we take it to extremes, which are faster - top fuel bikes or top-fuel cars ;)

(Hint - it's the one with 4 wheels)
