Just thought I'd give any of the younger people on here some info on where I'm insured. After spending 3 weeks ringing all the big companies and specialists (I even bought Max Pants for the list at the back:eek: ) the best I got was £3104 tpft, so I was a little sad to say the least, but noticed in the brochure for my shiny new Barclaycard they do car insurance. Got it from them in the end for £2500, still way more than I should spend but a big saving. This was for an 18 year old with 1 years NCB driving a '94 S13.

hope this is useful

I'm sure they just make up a price for insurance!! Mines due next month, i'm 24 with 6yrs NCD, have had quotes mainly in the £1K+ area!! Tesco was the best at £669!

Just had an insurance company refuse me coz my car had locking wheel nuts, therefor the car was modified from the factory spec!!

so because you've improved the security on your car they refuse to insure you:mad:  how does that work?

God knows! Probably a polite way to tell me to pi$$ off:D

are they ****ing stupid?
I was told i HAD to have locking wheelnuts on my alloys, obvious reason.

try Bell Direct... £2500 is scary stuff to pay for insurance. That's £100 cheaper than the price I paid for my s13a!! Still, judging by the way the average 18 year old drives I'm not surprised they charge so much. (I acknowledge there are some sensible 18 year old drivers out there before anyone starts!)

I realise I'm paying for others who don't take as much care, but whats really annoying is when the government goes on about reducing the number of uninsured drivers but still puts a tax on insurance!

I think I tried Bell Direct, most of the 40+ companies I rang wanted nearly £4000!!

lr110v8, you phoned 40 companies?! I thought I was bad enough when i phoned 15! Tell you what... you have a lot of patience! You're right about the tax/govt thing... amusingly if you get caught uninsured you get fined £50, versus having to pay £2000 for insurance  so guess why there are so many uninsured drivers...

GD1, you're 47 and pay £485? Live in a dodgy area or something? I'm 30 and pay about £300 (live in Surrey). Try Bell Direct, esp if your car is standard! ;)

not sure about the patience, I remember the later conversations seemed to go something like this-

whats your best quote, sir?
£3104
ok, let me see what I can do
5 minutes of 'turd 80's rubbish music' (volume 4)
We can do it for £3873, will you be taking out a policy with us, sir?
sir?
sir?

got bored of saying no and goodbye at number 10! Glad I didn't know about the tiny fine you get for driving uninsured before I payed for it!

cheers,
Matt

I've been ringing round, getting quotes from £1100, a bunch around £850, Tesco at £680 and Highway (through Adrian Flux) at £600.

I've been with Liverpool Victoria for a few years and am expecting a renewal about £700. It's a good policy including stuff like European cover, courtesy car, £250 excess, discount for breakdown cover etc. Their claims handling is awful though.

I'm 30, 5yrs NCB, low risk job and middling risk postcode (WF12)

The Highway policy is cheap but excludes most of the above and has a £300+ excess.
