Hi all, looking for answers to a couple of questions....
Im looking at ice in a S13 (H) first off anyone suggest some makes/combinations of equipment for quality sound.... not pure volume I want some good quality sound.
Next up, positioning of stuff, where are your suggestions, I know the boot is easy, but I need it! My ideas were...
speakers in normal places (doors, parcel shelf etc)
sub... possibly in spare wheel pit (can it be done?)
amp/s next to sub with a shallow false floor over it all...perspex windows etc.
Any ideas would be appreciated, cheers

I just wrote this once then hit the escape key how annoying is that.
I replaced the 6.5 inch factory clarions with pioneers, which are a stop gap till i fit something more capable, but hey they are cheap and cheerfull. Had to replace em cos paper was perishing.
As for your sub problem, spare wheel well is one idea but your losing all usable boot space and a spare wheel, not a problem if you carry a can of that get you home gunk pooh, but not my idea of fun in a performance car.
Must point out this is possible solution for S14 not seen in the back of a 13 but hopefully something of what i said might be of use.
Pete i think was looking at a stealth box solution, with a blended box somewhere in the right rear of the boot space, around the leccy aerial. Dunno how he got on down at auto acoustics but this is one possible.
I`m coming at it from a different angle i want to mount twin 10`s on the fuel tank firing into the back of the seats and possibly ported into the cabin via the shelf.
Went over to local ice specialists and it`s do-able with a couple of clauses, the Subs have to be almost comp pro spec to allow them to work properly in a box which will end up with a volume of about a cubic foot, they showed me some lovely boston acoustics 8`s and 10`s but at 199 and 249 a throw bit out of my league, then they showed me some american kit called audiobahn, massive monsterous things but capable of working in .85 of a cubic foot box. Allowing me to stick em below the shelf. Hopefully by pairing them together i should be left with enough room to position the cd changer or better still down flat.
I`m going to create a false wall bootside of the tank to house the amp in (D Class Alpine MRD-M300 or Kenwood KAC 819) and associated power blocks and the like. Just need santa to bring me a jigsaw and that norm bloke of home and leisure channel.
:D
Just a quick note NissanNewbie about the subs.
0.85 - 1 cubic foot for a 10" sub can still be considered as quite large when you consider that it has to be the internal dimension thats is 0.85 cubic foot. Adding on the recommended size of "at least" 3/4" thick MDF for the structure, you end up with a slightly larger than expected box.
But like you said, budget is a big factor.
Some manufacturerer's subs are designed to work in even smaller boxes for a 10 inch. Like Diamonds - the 10s require a 0.5 cubic foot internal box, which is pretty much the size of the box the sub is packaged in - but again, the 10" M5 is £250 a piece.
The higher models (Hex Macdaddies) are twice the price, but have a longer throw and handle twice the power, which means even deeper, louder bass given the same box requirements.
Just a consideration.

I`m thinking of just chucking the car at the guys and having them sort it out 250 quid for fitting and assembly of box with false wall with amp, means i`ll be 750 quid lighter for some bass in the car but then it is sadly missing.
But your Sooooo right about subs and higher quality for lower space required, looked at a couple of budget kenwood and pioneer subs and they needed 45 litre boxes and that so isn`t happening, they reckon the 10" audiobahns will go in no problem, so i wait to find out, i`ll get some photo`s once it`s done.

...Just to alert you Ickle, as you have an S13 the standard speakers are 4" x 6" oval jobbies. There are some good quality replacements available out there (try: www.bass-junkies.com/ )
but you'll also need a sub if you like your bass!
