Hi all,

Just thought id share this project Im working on at the moment along side our V8 project.
It all started when my delivery driver brought in the local paper and said 'look at this Dal'. The advert said-
Nissan 200sx rebuilt bottom end jun light weight flywheel New garret t301 roller bearing turbo, spares or repairs £150

So the first thing I thought was what the hell is a t301 and I thought it was a lie on the sellers part, but hey it was worth a look for £150 I always need spare parts. So me a Tas and another friend went to see it, I was surprised when I got there how clean it was for a G reg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/06022007053.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/06022007054.jpg
checked it over and tried to start it but to no avail. It was locking up so I was thinking cambelt was fitted wrong. I decided to buy it to see if I could get it running if not use it for spares. The owner left me a note and it was the funnest thing I have ever read I cant find it at the moment but when i do Ill post it up, but you can imagine. He said it had a roller bearing! It was only a standard T25 but it was mint Ill give him that.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/07022007060.jpg
Got it back to the workshop and had a look over it on the ramp. Reading the history on it I discovered it had been off the road for well over a year so I new it would have problems and oh it does! but what do expect for £150!
Its def an mot failure as you will see the rust problem it has.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/26022007112.jpg
The sills also need re-doing:rolleyes:
I then checked the engine timing and it was 180 out so sorted that and tried starting it but no go, first thing I did after that was compression test it and found the problem, 5 psi on number 4 so out come the engine to be stripped.
Then found out along the way it did have a jun flywheel so upstairs thats going until I need a clutch on mine then its going in:D
I thought it was a bent valve because it was 180 out but it was a melted piston so I was now in two minds whether to break it or rebuild it.
I hate sending s13s to scrap heaven, Much prefer bringing them back to life.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/06022007056.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/06022007058.jpg
The next couple of weeks the V8 took over my time so it was pushed to one side.
In the meantime an engine and upgrade parts found its way into my workshop by unfortunate means ( sorry Tas) So it was decided between us to revive this car with the parts.
So it was on with the work getting it running and MOT'ed, I have also decided I might aswell clean it up the best I can Inside out and underneath

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/26022007108.jpg
I started with the hard bit the rear chassis so out came the fuel tank and rear subframe

For £150 it wasn't too shabby, especially as it's got the JUN flywheel.

Another project I'll be watching, and knowing the quality of your work it'll be a good one.

DAL

The plan is to get it running stage 2 and to get rid of the rust as best I can and get it through an mot and then probably sell it:Plug:
I have a few people interested, regular customers at work. Im just going to get it done the best I can and see what happens.

I had a similar number on one of my old cars, G999 NYD on a 3rd Gen Honda Prelude, 4WS, 2.0l, was the best fun FWD car I've ever driven!!

That car looks twice as good just by the facelift alloys...

Update of todays progress
I started today hoping I would get a coat of paint on her but oh no the s13 rust bug hit me.
I finished the plates off on the passenger side

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/20032007188.jpg

Then I moved on to the drivers side and I found this lovely hole under all that mud
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/20032007190.jpg

So out come the interior and a bit of sound proffing to investigate further
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/20032007189.jpg

After cutting all the rust out I was left with a big hole to fill
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/20032007191.jpg
I started welding it up but didnt finish as I had enough for one day by that point

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/30032007229.jpg

I went to put the carpet back and noticed a small bit of rust on the sills :annoyed: Then as it always does you do one hole and you find another 2 or 3 or maybe 4, More welding and grinding for me then! So I made a start on it, I was planing to tidy these sills up but didnt expect this much:rolleyes:

I was going to come down on Friday but had a really bad day which led to a depressing weekend.

A big bunch of friends and family went out for a lunch and two of my friends rode their bikes down from Lordswood (just round the corner from me). Had a really nice lunch and chatted to them about bikes as I'm a biker, we said our goodbyes and parted ways. 10 minutes later I got a call saying Mark had been killed on the M2. Some **** of a white van driver pulled out from the second to third lane not even seeing the bike, Mark came off hitting the central reservation and was killed instantly.

Didn't fancy being very sociable on Friday or this weekend to be honest.

Ive started spraying the roof now.
A very dusty before
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/16042007252.jpg

Flattened that down with 500 grit on my DA then with ultra fine scotch pads
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/17042007259.jpg

After filling and getting rid of a bit of rust around the window it was given a coat of primer so I could see any flat spots dents etc
Then the primer was flattened down with 1200 wet n dry
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/17042007260.jpg

Then a coat of high build primer to get it nice and flat

iv found halfrauds to be a bit sh!te mate, poor finish and the match isnt great. theres a place called kent panel n paint down bottom of bluebell hill, they mix it up for you, very good match and the cans have a directional nozzle so u can spray it evenly, obvoisly cost a little more, around 13-15 quid a can, u just need the cars paint code

ben8000
19-04-2007, 12:56
my mind has been cast back to that top gear, repairing a Rolls Royce, where clarkson was assured by the halfrauds rep that because BMW now own RR that BMW paint would be a perfect match for a 20yr old car form a different company.

personally i wouldn't heard some unkind remarks towards them before.

Hi all

I decided to find a new place for paint and was successful found a place local, so thanks for your comments:thumbs:

I got the black coat on today fairly happy with it but what do you expect from a rattle can:D
I have alot of flattening and polishing to do to get the best finish possible but it will be worth it.

Before I done the top layer I flattened the primer down dried it off and used slow degrease to clean the surface, then three coats off a solid black which was matched to the window trims, very happy with the match:D

Hi all,

Got the roof done today.

I started cutting it back using a rubber sanding block with 1500 wet n dry and plenty of water and a wiper blade to wipe the water away to see where the ''orange peel'' was to cut it back.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/21042007270.jpg

you can see the orange peel in the pic bellow the lighter area is where Ive cut it back and the darker areas still needs cutting
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/21042007275.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/21042007276.jpg

I started at around 8:30 and finished at around 3 so not too bad, God my arm aches!!

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/23042007280.jpg

Next stage was to use cutting compound to get that shine back. I use G3 and and a buffer
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/23042007281.jpg

This is before I polished it, Ill save that for the final pics:D

Im in the process of getting it back together, once the boots done and shes Mot'd Im going to buff the whole car with the g3 then Ill get some final pics up

What have you tried recently?

DAL
24-05-2007, 23:36
Everything I can think of mate I know its over fueling on start up so Ive changed every component possible.
FPR, injectors, coil packs, plugs, ecu, fuel pump, relays, checked wiring, new fuel filter, blown the fuel line out, the list goes on.
What stumps me is it will start a few times now and then go back to not starting without the fuse trick.
It will run fine after its started with no fault codes and timings spot on pulls lovely:annoyed:

The first thing Im doing tomorrow is changing the ECU temp sender a few people said this may cause it to over fuel on start and have had experience of this in the past with other cars.
I dismissed this because of no fault code but you can never take anything for granted so its worth a try.
If that doesnt work then Ill change the fpr again if no still god help me:annoyed:

fingers crossed for tomorrow

This car is the vain of my life at the moment its just not playing ball.

If anyone fancies having a go at fixing this damn problem there will be a good few beers in it for you thats for sure

I never usually let things beat me ever but this is so annoying it just winds me up and I have to walk away usually go look at the V8 that always cheers me up:wack:

Ive got a feeling It just needs a good long run. You have changed absolutely everything fuel related now and a few ign components. Have you done a compression test?

Edit: Air leak around the inlet mayb?

Edit 2: Have you seen how it runs on a normal CA Airflow sensor?

Vaughny
25-05-2007, 20:36
Have you changed the fuel pump again?

DAL
25-05-2007, 20:45
Have you changed the fuel pump again?

It was the same on a spare pump I have that I know works Ive changed it back to the walbro now.

I have always thought it was fuel pressure related as It starts on low fuel pressure ie no fuse in, so no pump running. So then you think weak spark so changed all ignition related parts still no joy then I go back to fuel pressure and its all just a big vicious part changing cycle:annoyed:
