MMMMMM RS200 EVO - powered by the 2 litre version of the Cosworth BDT engine.
Fook me its got 700BHP and 300KG of downforce at 70!
The 1.8L RS200 that Clarkson drove on Top gear (and lost it) shocked him with its acceleration and it only had 380BHP!

Wasnt that the reason that they stopped making them, because they were too powerful, and they lost control killing rally spectators?

Yep, group B ralling was banned because it was too dangerous, but these days the cars are almost as fast but they've managed to give them alot more grip/safety features.

Takes all the fun and danger out of it!, a bit like F1, although its not nice, sports are always better when theres a high risk either to the contenders or the spectators IMHO

You must have definitely missed the 'Grand Prix' rallycross event from earlier today on the telly (which prompted this post initially as I went searching for specs) - cars belting each other on and off track, 700bhp isn't easy to get down on the ground when you're setup half tarmac, half mud :D

They killed spectators on two occasions. One in an RS200 and one in a Group A Golf but it was the Lancia Delta S4 group B crash later in the season which killed Henri Toivenen and his co-driver that led to it being banned. Didn't ban group A too though.

Shame they banned Group B, they were working on a newer range of cars which would have been even madder i.e 600hp + and lighterweight

Heres a quote from Walter Rorhl, one of the Audi works drivers "Accelerating from 180-200mph is like 30-40mph in a normal road car...". The later Quattro sports were producing more than 600hp and the 1987 cars were going to be producing nearer 1000bhp apparently.

Recognize this anyone ? Toyotas prototype 1987 group B/S car...

Before Group B was banned, Lancias successor to the Delta S4 was being designed. It had:-
Compound charging (Turbo+super charged)
Relitively low weight (and cc's I think)
700(!) BHP
F*ck all weight
An inlet and exhaust system where diagonally opposite valves were inlet and exhausti.e.

oO
Oo

Where o=exhaust and O=inlet.

Problem was the engine could only be used in mid engined cars coz the cyl.head was so tall. They also had problems with the exhaust heating the inlet charge. But fook me that would have shifted.
