What's really scary is that they are not denying that the stuff is not legal or that the stuff has adverse effects or that the pilots were essentially made to take it!!

On the other hand this is from 20/20 and highly likely to be highly sensationalised... But it sounds like those pilots are going to become scapegoats:(

I'd take them.

Flying a combat mission. I could die. I'd take every little edge that I could get, if my life was in risk.

Troops have always taken drugs. Napoleonic troops fought better drunk ('now lads, just stand in a straight line and don't run away') and Vietnam also saw widespread use of uppers in combat.

Not really. We are talking chemically pure stuff here, not street trash mixed with other stuff. We're also talking about doses that have no doubt been experimentally 'proven' to work. You wouldn't just say 'err, take 3-ish', you'd do some sim testing first.
Amphetimines in small doses aren't going to make you go off at the deep end anyhow, really.
