View Full Version : 125mph Blow-out
Aaaaiiiiiieeee
Lost the O/S/R on the A3 this morning.
Went from 34psi to atmospheric in approximately 0.25 seconds.
Saved it, like the hero that I am!
But my boxers went from White to Brown in approximately 0.50 seconds
Drove to work restricted to 80km/h
Nnnnnnggg

Glad to hear you saved it buddy, I use the A3 and really would have been late for work if things had been worse... keep up the heroic driving!
Standard 16" Wheels with Yokohama A 041s
125mph, outside lane.
Very big bang
I thought WTF?
Then the car veered toward the central reservation, corrected, then started to slide. Three Quarters lock just to keep it straight was no fun what at all.
Brought her under control
Had real trouble getting her off the A3 - as no bugger would let me change lanes, despite having my hazard warning lights on, and half on the OSR flailing around.
Fair piece o' driving to keep control of that one m8...
My old man used to be a sales rep, did **** loads of mileage and had some funny stories, this was one, I was reminded of it when I saw this post...
My Dad was travelling along the M1, midday and heading to a Cash and Carry. He noticed the car infront puff some smoke from a wheel arch and then noticed it decelerate without brake lights. He realised the car had blown a tyre as he saw it shredding from the back. However the car infront didn't brake, it just kept rolling along at 50mph (the blowout has slowed the car down a little from the probable 60 he was doing)
The car also didn't make any attempt to stop but was verring around across the lanes a little. So my Dad sticks the hazards on and the traffic behind hung back (causing quite a queue) as the car infront for about 20 minutes kept driving and moving across all three lanes...
Eventually the car started to slow down and pulled over into the hard shoulder where my Dad followed to see if the guy was alright.
The old man driving was white with fear and had just kept his foot (not flat out) on the gas and was trying to keep the car in a straight line for 20 minutes !! He didn't dare touch the brake, he didn't know what might happen.... poor fella, his seat musta been soaked with sweat (amongst other things !)
heh, when I was actually on the way to pick up my 2 ***** in the old 318 (they said they'd give me a bit of cash for it despite the fact I told em it was knackered or I'd have just got a lift there), anyway I was about 3 miles from home and decided to drift it round a roundabout for the last time, engaged 2nd and nailed it a bit, there was a crump, the car went all over the place and I looked in the mirror and saw one of my wheels bouncing about behind me, I managed to control the car and get it into the edge of a roundabout, then spent a pleasant 2 hours chatting to a copper who pulled up to tell me off for changing a wheel on a roundabout and took a double take when he saw what actually happened, anyway needless to say I didn't get any cash for the Beemer it just got donated to one of my mates who works at the local College for the kids to take to bits...

never hit the brakes if you blow out - just a tip I picked up. If you hit the brakes it accelerates the blow out and you whizz off to the left or right killing your car.
Let go of everything apart from the wheel, and veer over to the shoulder....
