View Full Version : What to get fitted whilst at SE

I'm going to get SE to fit my TC when it arrives. As it's a bit of a drive to get there I thought I'd get a few other things done whilst I'm there. I'm thinking of getting a boost upgrade done but I'm stuck on which way to go. I was just going to go for a new actuator but I think I've got enough cash for a controller. I've read what Steve posted on his HKS controller and it looks cool but what about the others (Apexi AVCR, Blitz DSBC etc.).
I take it with both the actuator/controller routes I should look at a chip upgrade at the same time and what about the cars overboost protection?
I'm not looking for mega power (yet http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/wink.gif ) but I'd like to leave my options open.
Anyone got any suggestions or what else to think about ?

Hi, I fitted the greddy boost contoller in less than an hour (and that was taking my time) so I would fit that yourself if your confident, I see you have the hks pump so fuel isnt going to be a problem at higher boost levels. what I would do is get your FCD removed upgrade your chip to control it all better when you fit the boost controller and run higher psi. after that you want to be looking at some sort of IC upgrade.

I've never read a side by side in depth test of the boost controllers so can't comment on which one is "best". However, I've spoken to various people who've been very happy with each of them. The Apex seems the most fully featured but also most complex to set up, and gimmicky in some eyes.
As for a chip, personally I will probably go for a piggyback fuel computer eg Apexi S-AFC and maybe upgrade to a full replacement ECU at a later date.

I take it I can just get a HKS FCD to get rid of the boost limit. I remember reading some downsides of the HKS FCD but can't remember what they were, anyone ?
I thought that the chip upgrade might have sorted it out, ah well learning all the time.
Are there different flavours of chips (stages) for the S14 as there are for the S13 ?
