Did anyone else see this on the news the other day. Two cargo ships collided - how the fcuk can two huge beasts like that crash. It's hardly a motorway in the ocean, and neither are they small!!

Well, due to the actual shallowness of the Channel, and the big draft of these boats, they are restricted to very narrow lanes.

Plus, you can't exactly turn the things on a sixpence.

There's no reason in this day and age for two ships to collide in those circumstances unless it was caused by catastrophic equipment failure or human error, I'd put a fiver on human error myself.

Wouldn't have happened in my day, etc....

Maybe they were all Nova boys with their baseball caps on the wrong way around and were busy admiring the latest "chin spoilers" on the front of each others ships.

A third ship actually collided with the sunk ship :eek: , the authorities said that they had put a beacon on it. Probably a traffic cone or something :rolleyes:

I though saabs and volvos were supposed to be 'safe' :D

All those people waiting for their Beemers now have another 3 month wait :))

All those would-be volvo drivers kept off road for another month. Well, that'll help the road safety statistics.

havin had a few crashes on ships whilst in the mob i can honestly
say it is easy to crash a ship.

Sailing up a inlet to a habour and we are going nowhere .

b.t.w we are in a type 42 destroyer. big bugger.
40,000 bhp engines.

the current is against by 5 knots. 1knot= 1.8 mph
the wind is against . This is alot of force to overcome.

So wind those 2 aircraft engines up, and sail at 3/4 speed
and your only moving forward by 5-6 knots.

Suddenly the captain has a brain failure and goes into a
protected harbour. NO CURRENT AND LESS WIND.

Ship accelerates alot. OK stop the enginesthis takes time. To late , BANG.

So easliy done . You even get an equivalent of road rage. well our captain did as ships on auto pilot couldn`t give a ****e about anything else.

think im working waaaayyy too hard you know, first thing i thought when i saw this on the news was "oooh i wonder who insured that?"
