if my mainboard will support 266mhz fsb whats the fastest chip i can run?
will be an athlon xp+

You'll have to check your motherboard manual or its website. Thats just one small speed measurement, which u can;t tell anything by.
If your in doubt, post the motherboard details here, and i'm sure someone will find out for ya.

Check on the MB manufacturers website, many upgrade their bios releases to accomodate newer CPUs if the board can handle them.
depends the max u'll be able to run will depend also on max multiplier.
check the manufacturers web site if not post the model number here or what it is and i'll find it out for u.
if u have an abit or an asus u maybe able to keep ur chip unlock the cpu and whack it up to the most the mobo can run, but u may need a serious cooler with arctic mince

ur already running an athalon XP cpu!
minium that i can remeber will be an xp 2000

yes sorry,it is running a 1600+xp at the moment just wondering how fast i can go before upgrading again

Just checked on the Elite website. The board will support up to 2600+ :D

Oh yer, depending how old your board is you may need a BIOS upgrade on it
