View Full Version : S14/S14a stage 3a map nearly ready
Just been to the rollers to sort out the S14/S14a stage 3a ECU maps.
Managed 347bhp and 360ft.lbs torque - this was at 1.4 bar peak dropping to 1.3 at the red line.
The Nismo 555s were at about 90% duty.
The spec of the car was:
GT2871R turbo
Profec B boost controller
Z32 AFM
Tubular manifold
FMIC
Uprated fuel pump
Nismo 555s
Apexi air filter
With this setup the engine is about 300rpm laggier than a GT28RS but with a ~27bhp increase in power
Heres the graph:

Nice figures Jez well done. Would it be wiser to go for 740cc injectors over the 555's or do u think the 555's will suffice.
I think they're ok - I've never known an injector to fail. They're only at 90% at the top end of the rev range and the fuelling was fine :)

Clever stuff!:)
I wonder just how cheaply you could have a 350hp S14 put together for nowadays?
Big power on a budget.

Was just thinkin that if I wanted to increase the power to around maybe 400bhp, would the 555's be able to cope. I think that they maybe be maxing out at that sort of power but I may be wrong.
no chance for 400 on 555's
Sounds good Jez
What a/r is the GT2871R? 0.64 or 0.86
That was with the 0.64 ar housing (in stock BTW, £799.99)
I think 350-360bhp is the most you can get from the 555s on a standard engine. You could get more if the engine was built with a lower CR and mapped to run leaner.
How reliable do you think the engine would be running this set up?

Ohh you git.. must not buy must not buy must not buy!!
It's amazing the difference a better turbo can make to your power... and that curve!! Silky!

No idea to be honest - so long as det doesn't set in (the graph above was with no det at all) it should be ok :)

cheers for an excellent day out jez
i am really happy with the results
the car feels totaly different even though its a bit lagger than the gt28r it feels just right for round the town driving in the wet, you can really feel that boost come in at 4k and with my current car set up its really controllable in the wet, i dropped the turbo% down buy 4% on the boost controller, and the car seamed to like that a bit more in the colder weather last night.
oh yeah didnt know what your driving style was like when we approched that car side by side, im used to my mates cutting in so thats why i braked early lol :wack: well impressed with the perfromance :)
thanks once again mark
Cool - glad you're pleased :)
The seemed to go very well on the way back ;)

yes in dede;) i think if i had tweeked it down a bit sooner i might have been a teeny weeny bit closer still lol:wack:
:)
Get some cams and it'll go even better I reckon
That's making it a really hard decision for some of us now, including me.
I've been so impressed with the stage 2 setup and 555's that I just need to choose which trubo to go for...
28RS, er 2871, no I need 28RS for low lag and great driveability, no I need the 2871 for that bit better power, no I need etc etc. You will be mostly responsible for me being institutionalised with all this going on in my head.

And that doesn't help either LOL :D
How about a 28RS and cams?
:)
Go on, you know you want to ;)
How about a 28RS and cams? What about them? Reckon they'll help your car quite a bit :)

I didn't think there was any point in using cams with a 28RS though, or are you just trying (and succeeding) to confuse me.
I thought (from all our previous NW RR days) that the 28RS ran out of supply as you got to higher revs and go only make about 1.2bar, so it wouldn't be abel to supply enoguh to make best use of the cams, whereas the 2871 needs the cams to make best use of the extra air it is able to supply.
If that makes sense.
Uprated cams would help on pretty much any engine :)
Jez, you've really got me thinking here.
I want a bigger turbo, either 28RS or 2871 to go with your stage3/3a.
I don't want to lose low torque though as that's what I love about your stage 2, the instant go from almost any revs.
So, I was thinking of 28RS to keep this, although I was tempted for the 2871 to trade a little on the low range for better top end.
However, if I went for 28RS and went for cams as well, jstu mild say 256 poncams or someting, have you got any experience of how this affects stage 3, would you lose more low end than a 2871, or lose less, and would you gain close to the extra top end of a 2871 without the longer spool up time.
I assume I'd need a stage3 and then a custom map if I went for 28Rs and cams.
I'd go for a GT2871R with cams - you get good top end and if setup correctly about the same lag as with a GT28RS and std cams.
If you go with cams you'd need a custom map too.
I've got the GT2871R in stock, I can also get the GT28RS. I'll have Tomei poncams in stock in 4-5 days :)

Hmm, could always throw them in mine for research purposes.....:wack:
I'll let you know when they're in ;)

Do the stage 3a chips work with the .86 version of the 2871r?
I've not tried it, but I think it'll be fine :)

Damn I was hoping you'd say it wouldnt work :D
I've seen a 2871r in the for sale section and now some defi bits have come up as well, I should have gone down the pub instead of sitting round on here
Just a small notice.. I am using the .86 version and it seems to work good as hell.
I will check for detonations and also check the poweroutput on rolling road later on this or upcoming month. I will post the figures when I have done that.
