****UPDATE - APRIL 07 - Due to the lack of uptake it is unlikely this event will go forward. Looking at the figures and basing things on previous events drop out rates we would be looking at about 15 200sxs and 5 other cars. However there is still a possibility we can run something if straightliners get interest from another group we will get contacted and see if its suitable for our requirements.

Really sorry, Ian

SXOC timed sprint circuit and drag competition at Elvington Airfield around May (TBC). A discussion has been taking place in the members section as to whether its possible for the club to hold an event like this and now its time for a show of hands.

NB - camping will be available to competitors

The event tickets would be £80 (provisional estimate) and we would need 50 cars to make it worth while for the company that will run the event - straight liners (the same that run Ten of the Best). These cars don't necessarily have to be SXs but next in preference would be for rear wheel drive jap cars with 150bhp+. But if you enter and your car blows up the week before no one will stop you running in your 60bhp hatchback. Other clubs will be invited to make up for any shortfall.

Unfortunately top speed is not possible due to a court order Elvington now have (something like only allowed by the courts to do top speeds once a month and we haven't booked far enough ahead). The highest terminal will win the Top speed section of the competition.

This event will also serve to aid SM/Kev to help decide in picking the SXOC Ten of the Best team and as a practice for this year’s competitors to familiarize them selves with the format. The best 5 cars will help make the club and the car more prominent in tuning circles and amongst enthusiasts.

There are still a lot of things that need to be organised, more details will be published when it’s possible i.e. possibility of camping, professional cameraman/DVD etc.

PLEASE VOTE and express yours and your friends interest (please also state cars and tune), those that say they are a definite, your name will be added on ZE LIZST.

Ian
:sxoc: :sxoc: :sxoc:

Update - Event date in the balance but something will be definatly be going ahead. Straightliners are in discussion with the TOTB organiser/Redline mag to see whats possible.

Frequently Asked Questions and updates

Will camping be available?
Yes to all competitors that have paid in advance :D
What about a friend/partner or other driver/friend? I dont know what the policy will be on this, but will find out if this is the case for anyone.

If I am going for the SX TOTB team do I need to attend this event?
Nope, this event is self contained matching TOTB layout. Please see the TOTB thread in the members section and contact SM/kev for requirements. This event however may identify cars/drivers previously unnoticed.

Does my car need to be powerful?
No, you will have a lot of fun whether your car is 170bhp or 300bhp, you might surprise yourself too as getting good times is usually down to driver ability.

Are there any regulations that the car must comply with for this competition?
Road legal in the loosest sense of the meaning i.e taxed, insured, MOT'd and roadworthy
Tyres - same regulations as TOTB no slicks or wrinkle walls, tyres must have 1.5mm tread be DOT or E marked. BFG drag radials, toyo 888s, DO1Js all permitted :)

One from the members section -
Why is the event so costly?
Elvingtons prices have increased to fight increasing litigation from noise complaints and are fighting to stay open at all. The event organizers also have to pay for insurance, medical emergency people, timing equipment and there own time. Also the price is estimated on 50 cars, 100 cars would make the sitting about longer but the prices cheaper. In comparison a test and tune day at santa pod is a premium day where a mere 100 cars are allowed to allow maximum track time this costs £60 and doesn't have a sprint circuit with timing gates ;)

This looks interesting  Before i vote can you just clear something up for me. As this is a timed event and a competition are there any regs that need to be complied with or will a road legal car suffice?

Hi, I would be up for this. Just wondering how close to the 14th of may you would require payment. Or would it be a turn up and pay event?? Thats if it goes ahead of course.

Cheers
Matt

I have asked this question to straightliners and they have not really given me an answer to this one as to a deadline.

Personally I would say payment to be pretty early in the scheme of things as I wouldn't want to persuade the company to book the event and then make a massive loss due to only 20 out of the 50 coming along. We would definitively lose the chance of running a bigger, cheaper, with added top speed, weekend event in the future with them.

Current interest is looking fairly small as it is... Given about 3 of my friends from work are interested with, CTR, s2000, mx6 where currently standing at about 1/5th the interest we would need. Hopefully some people will come out of the woodwork soon. :)

Unfortunatly its not possible :( That would be my pref to to get more people who cant get time off work to come along

If this event goes down well (and enough forum users are interested) we would have built up enough trust with the company to organise something the size of scooby shoot out the year after though :) There are after all about 8000+ 200sxs in the country.

1) No not a bank holiday :(

2) yes you can use a scooby :) but you wont be eligible for prizes however you will still be recorded as the position you finish in, on the overall league on the website im developing.

3) there are always loads of run what you brung days but you dont get to find out how well you did against everyone else (all you know is that you beat that corsa lol) or have a professional quality dvd of the day. The event is meant to be to give people without £££ for T78 turbos a chance to have a go at a competition styled event with a sprint circuit. Also it will help those that go to TOTB to practise.

Thats one of my main concerns too especially as Bren tried to persuade elvington to accept camping last year but was unsuccessful, me and dad stayed in a local B+B for £20/night. I will ask Trevor at straightliners about it when hes back off holiday on the 21st of feb. If its not possible I will look into other places for camping.

yep we could at totb, but weren't allowed to at brens track day, so i dont know if totb might have been a one off due to the revenue it generates.

Will find out in 4 days :)

edit - looking at my emails I did ask him this question before but wasnt given an answer, i shall ask again on the phone

I've got a turbo kit on order from bren and its going to be about 10 weeks. If the car runs I'll come, may bring supra if not.

I'll confirm closer to the time if I can?

Car would be circa 500hp TD06 25g RB25 s13

Unfortunately there is not enough interest from SXOCers (prob about 20 give or take) and individuals from other clubs (no registered interest received) to hold this event.

But I dont like to give up hope! I spoke with straightliners today and they said they still believe its a good idea to hold another pre-totb other then the scoobyshootout (which im told is pretty much either booked out or will be) as he has received interest from other individuals wanting to practice. He also has discussed this with the TOTB/redline magasine organiser who also agrees.

My beliefs are whatever happends we need camping the day before to allow for people competing who need to travel from scotland, down south and wales etc. Also if it has to be midweek we need it to be a monday or friday.

I will keep you all posted with information from straightliners and I will try my best to get a date as early as possible and the fine details.

In the mean time we need an awful lot more interest the more people get there name down the better, doesnt matter if they have a tvR, gtR or civicR please try and drum up interest and ask that they register on here so that I can PM updates when things are finalised.

I'd like to do this in my 205 GTi, deffo in if thats allowed :)

Edit: It's a real shame there's not enough interest as it's a great way of doing a competetive sprint without having to mess around with MSA membership etc.

I'm sure if you keep plugging away it could happen :)

Will put a link in my sig

****UPDATE - APRIL 07 - Due to the lack of uptake it is unlikely this event will go forward. Looking at the figures and basing things on previous events drop out rates we would be looking at about 15 200sxs and 5 other cars. However there is still a possibility we can run something if straightliners get interest from another group we will get contacted and see if its suitable for our requirements.

Really sorry, Ian
