View Full Version : Nissan propose 350Z little brother
According to Auto Express, Nissan are proposing a new rear-wheel drive machine below the 350Z, said to cost between half or two-thirds the cost of the 350Z (£13,500 and £20,500).
Could this be the new S16?
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/204754/nissan_350z.html
They say it won't be a Lotus Elise sized car, so the Urge concept probably is just a concept.
Also, 95% chance that the UK gets the GTR officially. No doubt to do battle with new Acura 'NSX' and Toyota Hybrid 'Supra'.

WTF, is that a pig just went past my window?
If they do i assume it will be powered by that 2ltr turbo in the megan super scrabbler or something like that.
Just as long as its not :ghey: FWD i will be happy

Yep, and as long as its not a silly french engine i'll be even happier :D

nissan have been making 'moon buggy' cocept cars for quite a while.
might sell lots to China and Russia if they get round to mining the moon for Helium-3 like they want to, I guess, because they'll sell bugger all of those for use on Earth.

I'm just wondering what engine they'll use in the "little brother". Ideally we'd want a RWD 2.0 n/a SR engined version that'd be ideal for us in a few years time when we start running out of good S13/14 shells
On the other hand it might be so good that we'll want it just how nissan designed it .... :D yeah right!! :wack:

I see they really went to town on the fundamental "facelift" of the 350z. Looks like the same lazy ass who has been designing for Porsche since the 1970's did it!

That monstrosity is allegedly what old people will want in the future when they downgrade from their Pathfinders. :hurl:
Nissan have been talking about a smaller RWD car for years now, it would be nice to see but I'll not hold my breath.
2/3rd of the cost and 2/3rd of the weight of a 350Z would be great :D
Looks are second to handling and weight IMO.

I think I saw Judge Dredd rolling in one of these the other week. I think if they put some armour on it they may be able to sell it to the army!!!
That would pitch the new rear-wheel-drive machine bet*ween £13,500 and £20,500.
thats what the article says.....
sounds interesting, but its already been called 'baby 350z' now:(

Like they already say we bought the baby Skyline :annoyed: :p
The compact sports coupe should get a bump when the new Scirocco is introduced. Then again, Toyota killed off the Celica.
Hopefully the GTR will bring a Halo effect for any new Nissan sports cars.
Though Nissan may hold off as the Infiniti brand is being introduced to the UK with the G35 coupe or a new G Coupe in 2008.

Well considering Nissan probably won't release a Primera replacement in the UK they might aswell concentrate on small cars and sports cars :)
Sounds very promising.

"More noteworthy is the Coupé and Roadster's V6 engine, which has had nearly 80 per cent of its major parts redesigned. With power up to 309bhp from the existing model's 296bhp and torque increasing by 5Nm to 358Nm, the 350Z will be faster than ever."
Is this because the 350z engine was slightly french and made of cheese?

AFAIK Nissan are planning to concentrate on the utility/MPV/crossover side of things. Infiniti will offer "premium" sports and executive class cars. :(

The VQ engine has no French cheese in it what-so-ever, designed in Japan and built in Japan and Texas. It may be something to do with the engine recieving factory turbos for use in the GTR? Maybe cheaper to build all engines with upgraded parts instead of splitting a production line?
Is this because the 350z engine was slightly french and made of cheese?
nope, its because that engine has a full JAPANESE history behind it, and like all jap engines has flaws ...... you know the types, the CA's inability to keep its big ends past 100k, the SRs lifters that fall apart and oilways that are too small ;)

Whatever. If it ain't a RWD 2+2 with a hatch and a roof 1" lower than 350Z/911 it ain't no use.
As for that monster, Cartman in South Park has the word for it. GAYASS, buggered beyond use.

Better add we demand technically excellent 0.55m² CdA. That thing has got the aerodynamics of an open barn door.

Why would Nissan need another 350Z-based 2-seater coupe in their lineup? Unless it was a roadster and pitched at the MX5 I can't see the point.
(And I want my lightweight turbo'd RWD 2+2 coupe dammit! :smash:)

They need to base it on the 350Z to make it economical to produce. It can still be a 2+2, the Japanese market Skyline is based on the same platform architecture as the 350Z but is a 5 seat 4 door, and there is a 2+2 coupe in the form of the Infinity G35. They are just testing chassis settings under the mule body, all it means is it will be front engined and rear driven on what looks to be a shortened wheelbase.

Roof slopes like it does as they just hacked 100-150mm out of the Z.
They already have a Z roadster.
No way can they fit a 2+2 on shortened wheelbase. With that roof line there's not going to be any headroom in back. It will delete the briefcase shelf that Z has behind seats. Pure 2 seater, seats won't be able to recline much (no good for lunch time napping).
It's to compete in the ugly stakes with the Audi TT.
It may save about 50kg but it won't lose anything like the 300Kg the Z needs to lose.
If they put a hatch on the G35 I might consider it.
(quick someone send me some Airwaves gum!)

The Porsche 997 has a 2+2 layout and a wheelbase 12" less than that of the 350Z. ;)

But 997 is 4 1/2" longer overall, doors and I think front seats are a lot closer to front wheels, so more cabin space. B pillar height sort of indicates headroom behind front seat, which is kinda useful if you have a back seat. Wheelbase 2350mm, length 4427mm
http://www.carfolio.com/images/dbimages/zgas/models/id/11675/2005_carrera_4.jpg
Nissan made a point of putting the wheels near the corners on the Z. They wanted engine behind the front axle and small rear overhang. I think they had been reading too many mags with road tests on family hatchbacks where moving the wheels to the corners is considered good as it makes more cabin space. Wheelbase 2650, length 4313mm, note the almost complete lack of B pillar.
http://www.carfolio.com/images/dbimages/zgas/models/id/13834/2007_Nissan_350z_3.jpg
S13 wheelbase 2475mm, length 4535mm, 125mm/5" extra wheelbase and 105mm/4 1/4" length, a full height B pillar makes the difference between 997 having back seats that realistically only subteens can fit in and 200SX having back seats that can be used by adults (for short trips).
http://www.nadine180.com/car/spec_header.jpg
But your statement was that a 2+2 body could not be fitted on a shortened wheelbase. The shortened 350Z is a mule which gives no indications at all to what the finished car may look like, that's the whole idea of a test mule as opposed to a taped up prototype. It could in theory be a F-R mini MPV, SUV, hatchback or a 2 seater convertible.
Hopefully not an urge though :)

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/06/18/spy-photos-mystery-car-following-350z-mule/#comments
So it could all be crap and it's just the 350z replacement :)
The baby McLaren sports car chassis was being tested under a mule body of a chopped up Ferrari 360 in it's early development days. The S2000 one is a bit weird as it's wearing GB plates. It could be for testing UK spec damper and spring settings but there is a slight lack of cooling for a mid engined car.
