As seen on BAD BOYS the other night,

ok in a straight line - who do you reckon would realistically win ?

I would have thought the cobra ?

Also - maybe being too picky, but changing down a gear in the porsche while going flat out anyway will not suddenly propel you to warp speed as shown in the film ? Hey - but not being lucky to own such a car, maybe I'm wrong.

What do ya reckon ?

All a question of which version of the Cobra it is.

Could be a replica, could be a real one.
If it were a real one, they had 427 and 289 versions (and I think a 251 to begin with).
A 427 Cobra held the fastest 0-60 time of any car for a couple of decades, but I'd assume the 289 to be considerably slower.
On top of that, the Cobra has a lousy drag factor.

So, more down to the state of tune/engine size on the cobra than anything else.
A fully tuned 427 would murder almost anything, even now. A badly tuned 289 might be possible with a 200.

Deffo the porsche, I recall Will Smith saying it was a rare GT version (one of the fastest accelerating production cars ever?). According to the film admittedly. Got to have a high top speed though (911).

As for the gear change, six speed? Changing from 6th to 5th or 4th?

I believe the bad boys wagon to be a 911 Turbo 2 which was prepared in house by Porsche Motor sport department in very limited numbers.

A review in a magazine concluded that the Worst and Best thing about it was the Turbo lag, even the second staged turbo had noticeable lag till spun up, then it hit you in the back twice as hard as the first did.

The Shelby (not AC) Cobra in the film was supposedly a 427, but in actual reality was a fibre glass replica (look at the fibre glass bits shattered of everywhere when its crashed).

Either way both are sub 4 second cars in the right hands, but the Porsche will stick the power down MUCH more efficiently, though a proper 427 would nail the Porsche over the Quarter ;)

Over the quarter the cobra would defo kill the 911... but if a corner came about, well they the cobra 427 hasn't be classed as the world most dangerous car for no reason :D :D :D hey it's supposed to make the 200 look like it handles well :D :D :D

Simon :)

Yep, the Shelby 427 Cobra has the highest owners killed ratio of any car.

Strangley, the Viper, which is a superb handling car comes in second.

Maybe its just American Drivers thats the problem and the Cobra was a superb handling car :D

iirc when i saw the film i did do the car geek debate with myself and concluded that the film was correct given the spec of the porsche. but i forget why :D

the viper only handles really well on the track. on the road the slightest bump will put it out. according to performance car magazine.

Okay If we are talking about the sprint to the end of the run way the Porsche would win!

BAD BOYS

Is one of my favourite films......
I love the chase at the end.

People have asked me this question time over, and I have always stated that the Porche would win.

Since seeing the film I would love one of the porches.

Mind you, I have never had so much of an adrenaline shot when I was watching Gone in 60 Seconds.
When the helicopter was chasing after him and he hits NOS, I always shiver when that scene happens. I think it must be the sound of the engine or something.....
;)

The engine sound wasnt the car that you could see, the sound came from a 550bhp GT500:eek:

Yeah I found it hillarious, the cars reving to 5000 rpm when he hits the Nitrous and he just keeps on reving...lol

The original is FAR FAR better, proper chases with proper accidents ;)

Yeah its a nice noise but that film is BAAAAD, when they proclaim 'this guys crazy' when he reaches over 100mph ! ! ! woohoo ! ! holy cow ! thats quick ! then manage to lose him ??? dont see hardly any of the cars being raced around, we see the XJ220 pull up, she gets out and says 'I love that car' well why didnt we see her thrashing it around then ?!

The Cobra probably had a 95bhp Cortina engine ;)

Fast and the furious is a damn good film, but for some reason, I dont know what, I like watching the chase with the GT500 in Gone in 60 Seconds better than any race in F & F.

However the last race would have to be very close.
The charger, what a start:D :D

IIRC the Cobra in Bad Boys was a Pilgrim Sumo. Didn't they give one away as part of the publicity for the film?

The last race would have been CLOSE, WTF are you talking about...

The end car has A SUPER CHARGED, NITROUSED BIG BLOCK HEMMI and seems as they edited the wheelie bars out is producing WELL OVER 1000bhp and has HUGE hoosers on the back giving it a MASSIVE traction advantage, there is NO WAY that ANY of the cars could even stand a chance against that from FF!!!!!

There would not even be anyway of the race BEING CLOSE, the Hemmi powered monster would have DESTROYED it by rights!

My black MR2 Turbo is currently parked next to a brand new 911 Turbo out in the office car park.

It kinda looks naff now:confused: ............wheres that paint stripper.

I take you are talking about the Charger if you are then earlier in the film, Vin (Vince in film i think) states that the car has 900 horses..

correct me if i am wrong?

Bwahaha I was right :D

I didn't see the film when it was aired the other night but I'm sure it probably had a V8 of some description.

Even if it ONLY had 900 hourses it would STILL kill anything that FF had to offer in a straight line as it could lay down all that power so much more effectively!

As I dont know a great deal about cars, I aint gonna disagree with someone (prob like yourself) who knows more.:)
Fair enough.

So the film is inaccurate then? could it depend on how much the supra is pushing out? prob with 100 shot of Nos aswell?

Vez
11-12-2002, 11:34
The Supra is supposed to put out 650 + a 100 shot of Nitrous, but that wouldnt help.

There is a Video somewhere of a 600 + Supra Versus a Maclaren F1, and the Supra gets trounsed, well the charger would Trounch the Macca over the quarter ;)

The Modified for America Mac F1 (basically cleaning up the emissions for $250,000!!) which weighs 1180Kg's and has 627 BHP has doen 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and a 9.4  second quarter at some obscene speed. (I know that autocar quoted 3.1 Secs, but they aren't allways the fastest)
What I'm saying is that the would beat a Mac F1, but it wouldn't trounce it.

Vez
11-12-2002, 18:37
It'll prolly beat it by a clear second, which in the grand scheme of things is trounsing!!!
