100K spent on it = 1000 Lotus Man hours.

I might even consider a LADA if it was like that.

Funniest quote was Clarkson saying "Look Grateful" :D

Made me think of my old Lotus Sunbeam, with the black paint and the silver stripes.:)

Wasn't too impressed for 100K, only 180bhp for 100K. I appreciate that they probably spend alot of time on handling and interior and that Lotus time isn't cheap, but image the state of tune you could get an Elise in for 100K (easily 300bhp per tonne?). I'm probably missing the point though

Dunc.

Ditto

I'm suprised they didn't use a Lotus twincam in the Lada too...

I assume they used a fiat twin cam as the Lada is based on a Fiat so it was a simple swap. The Lotus 2.2 twin cam in the Sunbeam is a big awkward lump for it's size.

Guy Croft the chap who tuned the engine is a really nice bloke and knows all there is about the Fiat/Lancia twin cam, he built a motor for my Lancia Monti Carlo that was about 180 BHP sweet engine took loads of abuse and was still in top condition when I sold the car 40K miles later.
