What are the major probs people get with the Zeds?Obviously with the S13 its the rot on the tailgate+sills.did the Zeds ever have rot probs?common engine probs? Also what is the fastest 1/4mile time anyone has heard from a a Zed (bit of a wager betwween friends to settle;))
All I have heard of Z's is that they are unreliable - and if they go wrong there are not exactly easy to work on.
anything over 60k miles is high imo.
Fastercainy downloaded a vid of a r32 skyline racing a z over 1/4 mile. The z got whipped, but still managed around 10-11 secs :D

Plus parts prices take the p*ss. I've heard that a new set of front discs will cost £650 for a Zed
looking at £1200 for a decent pair of tubbies and the engine has to come out to fit em!
in fact, the engine has to come out if you so much as want to breathe on it

  Mental note to self: Never... buy... 300... ZX... go... straight... for... Skyline... instead :D
fastercainy used to have a Zed & he complains about the amount it cost to upkeep.

Any other opinions from anyone??:) are there any good sides to owning one.How much for the front discs??!?!?! is that for real?I just think they are the cheapest way of getting to 350bhp.

Go to the Zed board for a shufty at the myriad of posts re stuff breaking down.
Bloomin nice cars if you've got the cash to own one though.

Great cars!!! Gotta say that haven't I, I have one LOL
Reliability wise - it depends on how well the car has been treated in the past. You have to remember it has been pushing out 30bhp all its life and if driven hard that is gonna take its tole. Mine reached 77000 miles before a turbo seized - so now the engine is out. If you want to replace with stock then the prices aren't TOO drastic - ok you have to double everything up etc and its best to pull the engine to replace them, which adds up on labour. The problem with mine is that it now has.... well.... erm... much bigger blowers on it - hence most of the stuff has had to be upgraded. I won't mention the cost but its WELL over £5k so far :( Saying that, it does include a full rebuild so.... Once its finished, 600rwhp is going to be roughly what it will pull - so is it worth it? you bet it is ;)
Anyway where were we? Oh yeah. If you look carefully enough and get a good history, there is no reason why you shouldn't have a good runner that will last a long time with regular servicing - just like any other car. A common problem is a failing PTU (power transistor unit/ignition amplifier). This was an OEM recall in the states but good old rip off britain got shafted. About £150 to replace with an uprated item. Apart from that they aren't a bad car at all....

Well i have a 300zx and i have had a few problems lol, two enigne rebuilds, turbo failure, yet i keep fixing it because they are bar none AWESOME. They look good and if you can afford it they are lovely cars to drive.
Regarding 1/4miles fastest is pro street running low low low 7's :D
street zeds in the states, get into the 11's on stock turbos and very low 10s with more.
Depends on how deep your poket is at the end of the day.

Hi,
My mate had a G plate that he drove hard for about 3 years until he sold it recently. There were no problems (except leaking steering pump, faulty Brake electonic sensor and clutch) although it was running standard boost.
Don't think the discs are as expensive as think. You can get some good deals if you shop around.
I looked into buying one myself but found it hard to find a genuine low mileage manual Turbo.
Fair point - they are an easy 350 break - but they need it as they weigh so much.

what car did you settle on then tines? out of interest :)

LMAO not ture, i can get Cross drilled discs 328mmx32m for £380 all in both.
At the end of the day its a large step up form a 200sx.
So expect increased costs all round.
Hi arry,
I ended up buying an S13, on a J plate, currently running with max boost and induction upgrade.

some very tempting answers there then. But do they have any rot/corrosion probs. As i've had the sills and bootlid done on my S13 i think, ultimately, this wil eat the car in the end and i really think it hasnt got the potential that the Zeds have.It seems easy to get to 400+ BHP,this is toooo tempting.:):):)
AMDathlon.
Is your Ax any good?
I was thinkingabout getting one of these as a cheap run around to work and back. 1.1 seems tempting. 50+mpg.
Is yours good on fuel?
