Ok I have gone with BT for the time being. Just got an ordinary line for internet connection. I'm moving house and I just want to get settled ASAP.

So my problem is this. I am sharing a house with a friend. We want to do the following.

1. Access files on each of our two computers.
2. Surf the internet at the same time through our single phone point.
3. Play quake etc... against one another.

What do I need to do this and how much.

Friend here said simplest method would be a crossed network cable and two network cards. £30 tops.

Can anyone give me a foolproof guide to installing and setting up what ever is needed to achieve the above.

Thanking you in advance.

1) Install network card and drivers

2) Install protocols: TCPIP and also microsoft file and rpint sharing (use 192.168.0.1 for the PC with modem and 192.168.0.2 for the other, both with subnet 255.255.255.0 - this may sound weird but as you install the stuff all will become clear)

3) Set up dial up via modem as laid out by BT.

4) On the machine setup Microsoft internet sharing (can be done via a wizard and is easy)

5) Surf, game and share porn to your hearts content!

Vez - How did you guess what was going to be shared?

:D

Well I thought you need to "share files".

Most files could be looked at in the company of other poeple, but with certain files you need privacy and a keyboard cover ;)
