View Full Version : Best event of the year?
I´m asking this on behalf of all the foreign visitors.
I really want to visit one of your main events in the UK summer 2007.
I´m thinking of taking a week or two off and taking a road trip driving around the Europe (more possibly spending a few days fixing my car in the middle of nowhere somewhere in the Europe).
Finally I would head to the UK for an event. Which one would you recommend?
I´m interested in event size, participants, weather, track, afterparty etc.
Id say the big ones are:
F1GP @ Silverstone - middle of Summer, but expensive and not really a petrolhead event
WSB/BSB @ Brands (other circuits as well) - Motorbikes, but a great crowd and a decent party :D
Santa Pod Nationals - Cool drag racing, great crowds, events into the evening :D
D1GB - various locations - I dont know they are doing it this year, but when the jap drivers come over its exceptional. Even without them its still a cracking event but theres not much once the racing finishes :)
And finally .............
JAE - middle of summer. Massive jap car show, where the SXOC turns out in full force and proceeds to get very drunk. Best car event of the year, no questions, but no racing (probably a good idea due to aformentioned drinking) ;)

Oh, this is what I was thinking but couldn´t get the name in my head.
To be honest it is propably best not to race the car too much 1500 miles
from home. :wack: Is there a date yet?
Also when is the Santa Pod Nationals? I´ve heard it´s good also.

For me this year it was the first round of the D1GB championship at Rockingham. I loved the Silverstone rounds that followed, but because Rockingham is walking distance from my house, it made the event feel extra special. Seeing a sport I love being so close to home!

Last year was the first time i went and have been looking forwards to this years event ever since :D
Its more of a social event first and a car show second really, some people dont even bother looking round the cars and just stay in the SXOC camping area drinkig or the SXOC stand drinking :wack: , plus you get to see the Hungry ***** and free food too, all in all a great weekend

I got incredibly drunk at both of these events last year
Silverstone F1 is definatly just a piss up to be honest, im not even gonna bother going to my seat to watch the race this year......will stay at the bar :D
Please dont flame me, but I thought Trax at Silverstone was a good event last year. Bloody massive! Plenty of Jap cars and the odd sh*tbox Nova. But it catered for a large audience, there was a 0-60 sprint strip, 1/4 mile and track action, hot women, sunshine.
I saw the sxoc there, just chilling and on the track, and I saw the Norris Designs Evo do the 0-60. Cant knock it really....
You can't go wrong with Goodwood Festival of Speed:

Some pics on my site here (from '03 I'm afraid but it's similar every year).

I went to Trax last year too, allbeit on a different stand to what anyone on here would have been on. Its definatly one of the better shows of the year in my opinion. Tracktime, 0 -60 sprint strip, traders stands and literally 1000's of cars right through from standard to heavily modified cars. But then the shows arent all about the show itself, they're more to do with the people your going with. I reckon the best bet would be to turn up at the show where the most others go to, which in this case seems to be JAE.
Goodwood Festival of speed is good to, allthough is more of car show involving classic race cars/bikes right through to modern day supercars and F1 cars. They do demonstration runs up the hillclimb type of track, you can watch them in the paddocks preparing the car. there are also most of the car manufacturers displaying their new models and other trade stands. Loads and loads to do there. They even have a rally section now and had a few of the classic rally cars going round.
its the 20th-22nd July
There´s Japmeet 2007 in Mantorp, Sweden the previous weekend that we have attended for several years now.
It would be great to head off from there. Spend the week in middle Europe and then head to the UK on thursday/friday. Have to start planning this..
