Hi all,

I've just brought a new car car and if all goes to plan will be collecting it tommorrow. Its a 2000 (W) nissan 200sx S14a. Its black, with a cream/grey leather interior. Its completely standard (at the moment ;) ) and looks like its been well looked after, with every stamp in the service book all by a nissan dealer. I cant wait to get hold of it tomorrow now!

Ive brought it to replace my Rover coupe turbo. Was getting a bit bored of FWD!

I dont no if you'd want to see pictures of standard car, but when I got the 200sx I'll give it polish and stick some photos up of that too.

Congratulations on the new purchase. You will not be dissapointed.

Had mine years and still cannot think of any thing else I'd rather drive.

Nice Rover coup! Had a thing for those when they first came out. It was the FWD that crossed that off the list. What power were you getting out of yours. It looks tweaked!!! FMIC!?!

Welcome to the club.

Yer, I'll take it easy for a while untill I get too know the car better. One of my mates brought one a few months ago and crashed it within two weeks!

I picked up the car tonight and its mostly good news. The car holds the road really well and is much more refined than my old car. It pulls well from low down, but I dont think somethings not quite right as it goes up through the revs. It seems like its struggling to hold the boost past 5.5k rpm. Either that or its misfiring slightly at higher rpm. The power just seems to die off slightly and gets a little hesitant! I didnt notice it in the test drive, only when I got the chance open it right up on down the motorway tonight. Any ideas? The cars only done about 1000miles in the last 8 months/since its last service, so it probably been standing a while. Do you think that could have anything to do with it?

More than likely a boost leak  the standard intercooler pipework cracks where its joined to the intercooler - makes the car hesistant at higher revs. Can also cause rough idling, and will certainly not help your MPG.

Post up in technical, you'll get more response in there about it, but my monies on it being that :)

Welcome to the club, be careful at the mo like everyones said. You wont be able to corner with your foot planted like you could in the rover  take it easy

Boost leak mate, check all the pipework and the cooler in front of the passenger side front wheel, welcome by the way  you might as well PM Bren (Apex Performance) your CC details now as no doubt you'll be shopping very soon, as already said please take it steady in this crap weather we don't want the vultures circling overhead for parts :D

My old rover was a little tweaked, I spent a fortune on that car. Yes, it has a frount mount, it was a bit of an arse to do because there are no parts out there for them. I had to fit some slimline spal fans and still cut about 1 1/2 inches out the bumper to get it all to fit. As well as re-routing the powersteering pipe, one of the the aircon pipes and cutting a section out of the rad frame! The pipework was all custom made too!

I put a GT28R turbo on it, to get that to fit, the actuator bracket and arm had to be moddified slightly, the compressor housing rotated, the two holes on the oil drain pipe needed opening out, as well as a new oil feed pipe with the right unions on it and an inlet and outlet flange to suit the rovers pipework.

Other than that I'd done all the other basic mods and ran it at 14psi on the rolling road. It made 249.8 bhp and 239.6lbft. A bit of a handfull going through the front wheels!

Bloody hell you guy's post quickly.

I thought it was going to be something allong those lines. At first I was thinking it would be a weak actuator spring.

Its obviously a common problem so I'll do a quick search. I know what its like answering the same old questions over and over again for all the newbies that come along!

1 request though, can you do a search on some of the simplest questions as they've probably been asked a thousand times before and yes i was the same when i joined up, just need to send your 15 quid off to Ken for full membership beneifits now

Bugger beaten to that as well  they have a tendency to crack there pipes and there is a cheap as chips boost leak detector somehwre about on here, think its crank that wrote it up

No doubt I'll sign up for that soon, but I want to see how I get on with the car first.

Thanks for the quick reply on the hesitation problem. After reading a few old posts and going by what people have described that seems to be the problem. I'll have a look at it over the weekend (if I'm off work) and see if I can sort it. I might even treat myself to a FMIC.............. I said I wasnt going to mod this car for a while, now I'm talking about it after a few hours of owning it!

I was going to suggest FMIC seeing as you had a nice shiney one on the Rover.

Exactly right, boost leak probably intercooler pipe. Another possibility is exhaust. (Assuming you have the original back box on there still).

Mine did exactly the same thing when I bought mine standard. Took several months to find the leak. So getting a new FMIC, cuts straight to the chase.

I think Greddy FMIC's were a little over £300 on a group buy. (A little tricky to fit). Or I think Apex do one that fits without B*ggering about for even less.

Complete exhaust, and FMIC both make huge differences to this car, do the other accompanyments, air induction and boost controller etc. And your power output will fly past what you had the Rover at. (& Remember it's always worth checking the site for advice).

Nissan are cool, the parts that seem to die are the ones you want to upgrade anyway. & Tuning parts seem to be cheaper than the OEM ones. Party on!
