View Full Version : Eye Lasering
Has anyone out there or does anybody know anyone who has had their eyes lasered? If so where did you go, how much was it, was it painful and did it work?
Is that or a set of 18's
Tough choice

I'm interested too, though glasses do stop crap falling in your eyes when fixing the s13.
A friend of mine had it done a few months ago. It wasn't 100% succesful, he's still getting what he describes as streaks of light in front of his eyes. He has been told it may be another year before that stops. He's slightly short sighted and just picked up a new pair of specs yesterday.
Worked wonders on his confidence though, he's turned into a bit of a babe magnet, sh*gging non stop.;)

The procedure itself has a very high success rate, but the rare complications of decreased vision (which may not improve with glasses) would obviously be a major setback. It involves using a laser to shave some of the front of your eyeball (the cornea) off so as to change the focus of the eye so you don't need glasses. You should only get one eye done at a time (usually the good eye first) in case there is a problem. I know a number of people who are very happy with the results but they all thought very hard about the risks first. One of my friends was so happy with the first eye he had done he didn't get the second eye done and spent the money he saved on some ski's!
I would advise you to think about it carefully, discuss it with the person who will be doing it, discuss it with another ophthalmologist who won't be doing it also (don't forget it is in their interest to do the surgery because that is how they make money) and put your 18's on hold until you have firmly made up your mind.
Just my thoughts... the benefits are great and I don't personally know anyone who has had problems (although I would be concerned if I still had flashing lights weeks to months after my surgery), but can you imagine if it didn't work...
and no, i'm not an eye specialist of any description, (I am doing surgical training though)
Cheers,
Chris.

I konw of 2 people that had it done around four years ago, both very happy with the results. The pain after the anesthetic wears of is said to be comparable with being thumped very hard in the eye but only lasts a couple of hours.
It could be a myth but I have heard that if you have lazer treatment, you cant be treated for glaucoma in later life. Anyone else heard this???

Is it only used for treating short-sightedness coz I've got one lazy eye (which is extremely long sited) and if I wear glasses it looks like my left eye is twice as big as my right one...... not very attractive :( !
J
I wanted to have my eyes lasered ass well...

Mental note to self, make sure I have a quantity of anesthetic to hand. :)
Thanks for the comments guys
There are two different types that I can get done.
One is called PRK epiflap (they could have thought of a better name) and the other Lasik.
Lasik is about an extra £500 to get done but when it comes to your eyes it aint worth saving a few quid if you can't see it.
I was wondering if anyone knows the advantages of one over the other like quicker healing times etc
Cheers

Southern COmfort, Vodka, Absythne and Malibu mixed with Russhain (I think thats how you spell it) is quite effective methinks...
They can correct up too a minus 10 short sightedness...
I went for the consultation, and to cut a long story short my 'bit they do the lasering on' wasnt thick enough to correct my left eye completely and would leave me with a minus 3, so I didnt bother...
I do know some who have had it done and are very pleased with the result.
If you've had glasses, you will get them back again in latter life ;)
Got contact lenses instead :D
my boss had it done, now she can see through the walls and tell when im not working. This is entirely true to my knowledge, i have been busted more than ever since she got them sorted.
