The final para is bollock though:(

One of Britain's most famous speed cameras is likely to be out of action until next week after being knocked over by a driver, police have said .
The camera on the southbound carriageway of the M11 at Woodford, Essex, stopped working on Tuesday.

The camera has been trapping up to 2,000 motorists a day and has featured in campaigns about speed cameras run by national newspapers.

Officers found tyre tracks leading away from the camera and believe that someone deliberately reversed into it with a lorry.

Damage Discovered

On Friday an Essex Police spokesman said: "The camera will probably be up and running again next week.

"It has been out of action since Tuesday when the damage was discovered.

"The pole and the camera casing were damaged, although the camera itself was not.

'Save Lives

"We suspect it could have been done deliberately."

He added: "Speed cameras are there for one thing and that is to save lives.

"Perhaps if the person who did this could see some of the effects of speeding that we see in hospitals and mortuaries they would think differently about what they have done."

What's the speed limit their, if it's 60 why would a lorry limited @56 knock it over.

I think the lorry driver was drunk, got the munchies, thought it was a drive through Mcdonalds order box then got pissed off when no-one answered, so he drove over it in frustration:)

Saves lives my arse, some new cameras have been installed between jnc 40 and 41 on the M4 near me.

two weekes ago there was a mutliple car pile up and 2 (maybe 3) dead, car broke/braked? for camera lorry behind swerved went through central reserve into oncoming car. Occupants dead. this wasn't an accident blackspot AFAIK.

You mean until the camera was put up

The government & Police will never listen to motorists (or common sense) on this issue. The only way to deal with the camera menace is to take, ahem, direct action...

Someone planted an incendiary device on a camera near me - it didn't go off though and was removed by the authorities:(

i am a lorry driver, and i also drive a 200, given the choice i would reverse into a speed camera in my lorry rather than in my 200 regardless of what speed the lorry was capable of. lets hope this is the start of things to come and that by the new year all speed cameras that are not in black spots (ie most of em) have been driven into.
