just some more pics, i was thinking the clutch was going to be hardship, can't get to the bolts on top of the gearbox the engine is a tight fit it the s13 had to move the engine out the way, but it all worked ok:D

stiv
05-01-2007, 19:18
the rest from the clutch and the cam's out, tomei 256 one's going in

stiv
05-01-2007, 19:31
it all started well today, big turbo, big intake, cam's were in last night, all was looking good

stiv
05-01-2007, 19:52
it all went a bit wrong then, or more intresting anyway, the intake don't pass the clutch master cylinder so it had to be moved, the turbo exhaust comes out right at the abs servo,

Muttly

it all went a bit wrong then, or more intresting anyway, the intake don't pass the clutch master cylinder so it had to be moved, the turbo exhaust comes out right at the abs servo,I am possibly completely wrong but could you sping the turbo 180 deg? ie intake at the back. It'd be easier make an intake a bit smaller than an exhaust. The inlet to intercooler pipe may fit between the manifold and block. Then have the exhaust come forward and then down around underneath. Either that or remove the ABS and try and relocate.

EDIT: I should point out I'm no too good on turbos and the way they've to be fitted etc...

JP
05-01-2007, 20:07
the turbo exhaust comes out right at the abs servo,

Lol! :D Someone asked me only today why I wouldn't go top-mount on my turbo: you've just given a perfect example of why! :wack::smash: Would hate to go through the hassle of moving everything around... :annoyed:

stiv

took the abs off don't no if i need it it didn't work anyway, bent the clutch master cylinder out the way, starting to get there, also had to move the fuse box out the way of the throttle, i'm still waiting on the bigger one coming, but that is not a big problem,

starting to look more like it's getting done, made new brake lines to bypass the abs, got the pulleys to fit, some work to make them fit you can't buy them off the shelf, put some pic's up the cam is 35mm and the pulley 40mm so it would not center, made a spacer from 2.5mm flat plat and an old bolt and copper hammer, welded it up ground it off so it was nice and smooth and lock tight it in place, put a stud it the hole on the cam to hold it and drilled the tomei pulley to suit, got a new bolt that didn't have an oil feed in the center made a spacer to center that too, and thats one more thing out the way:D

stiv
22-01-2007, 23:52
some pics of the new brake lines, and the down pipe thats starting to take shape thanks to jp there's one down here too and he is one hell of a welder:notworthy :notworthy , its all been tig welded and look's the s**t, one less thing for me to do jp has it all under control:thumbs: , the t-belt is now on and the clear cover(i know it says RB26 they don't make them withRB25 so it will do) but it is starting to look almost done:nod:
just need my fuel rail to get here:annoyed:

it's been a long time since i put anything out this thread, been catching up on all the stuff that got put off before the feb meet, but we got back at the s13 today, was going to make a cold air intake box but when we started stripping it we seen some wire was starting to melt:cry: (this car has gone on fire with a burst turbo oil feed hose so melting is not good) with the heat from the turbo. as the loom was still ca18det with the rb25det and all the abs loom and a lot of it is not needed i cut most of it out and cleaned it all up took out the nissan ecu and the greddy piggy back(as its no good for what i'm looking for) so its all ready for the aem ems to go in tomorrow.

JP
26-03-2007, 23:49

been looking in to a lot of things from last week, had the intercooler off and the old one on, then a bit of 3" pipe to make sure there was no restriction.
just been out with the lap top playing with settings, it was dark out side and we could see the spark jumping out the side of the coil packs to the head:( so we do need to do something with the spark(drift works wasted spark i think) also the exhaust manifold was glowing after just 10min's at idel so there is something wrong with the timing:nod: so we'll fix the spark then look back at the timing:thumbs:

had it out the night before the track day mapping it, but the spark plugs(denso iridium ik20) that went in to it on the rush before the r/r day that i was told by the motor factor were heat rating 9:censored::censored: melted and damaged 2 pistons and the bore:wack:

should have looked it up on line before i used them, they did tell me the ngk plugs i asked for didn't exist(it was running ok for 8k on them if you ask me),

but on the up side it was running better just before the tip's fell off the plugs and i have a new block thanks to fast cav that only had a blown head gasket, it is now stripped and waiting on pistons think i'll go for hks pistons this time:D

yep, it was the tomei 2.8 stroker kit designed for the rb26dett stiv used, giving more torque and potential for more power

only problem stiv noticed is he needed to use an rb26 front pulley due to it being designed to stop harmonic vibrations along the shaft, potentially leading to bearing failure

as calicagesracing said tomei 2.8 stroker kit and it was a 2.5 to start with not the 2.6,

having problems with the aem and the nissan cas looking in to a fix for it now, think it could have been the problem before with the piston's and plugs getting damaged(but the plugs didn't help),
from what i'm reading the timing can drift from up to 20degrees:eek: then the engine blows:cry:

Evilchap
10-06-2008, 14:24
So how will a stroked 28 compare to a 26? Sorry for all the questions, you've got my interest going now!

stiv
10-06-2008, 15:27
not a lot in the blocks, the 26 head has solid lifters and the engine has lower compresion, lots of other small things, because of the size of the turbo it has a lot of lag but is still very drivable off boost and when running the way it should it will pull to 8500rpm

it didn't with the 1 that was in the car to start with, i moved it over a bit and when i was putting it back on i found a bit of oil leaking out of it, so got one from my local motor factor( not a nissan 1) and it was well smaller and fit's fine, bit of luck:D

the head must have gone on the last track day, thats what was causing the missing up top, just got the new holset hx35 turbo on with thanks to nelly(aka calicagesracing) to find out the head was gone:cry:

didn't up date this thread in a long time but the 28 engine was pulled out about 6 months ago, wouldn't rev passed 5k and chewed up the main bearings a second time:annoyed: think its getting harmonic vibrations.

so a standard engine is in for the time being, since it went in its had a miss up top on full load(head starting to fail) should have it back on the road on sunday, hope to pull it in sunday morning and put 1 of my spare heads on it, we can see how much power can be got from a standard engine with a truck turbo and Grandad's special brew!:wack:

Would it be worth getting the mains line bored and fitting oversized bearings for the 2800 shaft ??

Would it be worth getting the mains line bored and fitting oversized bearings for the 2800 shaft ??

the crank had small marks on it the first time and got a 0.25mm regrind and the line bore got checked, the shaft was also checked to make sure it was straight and balanced, and it was. so new acl race bearings and a new oil pump and a lot of other stuff and it got 1200miles and still not passing 5k rpm before the bearing went.

don't know how much damage was done this time, didn't fully strip it yet. it's been sitting there for the last 6 months caus i got sick of spending time and money on that engine:annoyed:

took the car apart yesterday, then put it back together with the spare head i got skimmed during the week. also changed the spring in the waste gate to a smaller 1 (0.5 bar), so i now have a low boost setting:wack:

car is now running but needs new fans and a good mapping session, must compression test it now too, had the shop take a good bit off the head for Grandad's special brew:thumbs:
