looks like you need a new plug not an engine crane:wack:
JOKE
i got one you can borrow, bees knees and all that, folds up into hatchback/estate etc
BUT IM IN REDRUTH
cornwall
your welcome to come and get it and you can leave it there and ill pick it up next time im passing to london if it helps?
not going to london for a while otherwise i could have dropped it off for you and picked up again on way back.
ill be there for at leats 2 days so 2.5-3 days should be enough for you , if not then another pickup time is fine
sorry im so far away..
now arnt i kind?:D
You can hire an engine crane for pretty cheap as it will prob cost you the same in petrol to go and get it.
I think it's between 15 and 25 pounds to hire but i'm guessing that you will have to hire it twice unless you can sort engine in one day OR have another engine to put in?
(so maybe it would be good to take up cossies crane as you'll have it for more than one day).
Matthew
Dave's offer still stands...
Got some axle stands now too if you need them.

Cosykiller - Thanks for the offer but redruth is a bit too far to travel
Scougar - I have thought about hiring but the cheapest i could find was around £35 and yes i have a spare engine in my garage
Teggers - Cheers mate i'll keep it in mind but we need a crane for 2 different weekends so we can do some rust removal/treatment before the good engine goes in. I would like to borrow those axle stands though  :D
I was thinking of starting a thread about it as its gunna be a road legal track/drift car that me and my mate are doing together so we can abuse it rather than abuse our s14's.

It would cost less than £50 for me to pick it up in my van. Ive got a few more local garages to try and persuade to lend me one for free but if i have no luck i might have to drive down and borrow yours if you dont mind us having it for a couple of weeks
We will be abusing this not our s14's  :D

 same as this one

i have lifted out a few 16v astra engines with boxes complete in the longest reach postion and it didnt even know that they were there.
it has done a 6pot bmw engine and box complete no problem.
most 4 pot engines complete with box are only around 200-300kgs(ish)
it is 1 ton on its longest reach but will go more, they have to for safety but to cover manfactors they are rated at 1 ton.
it folds up nice and the long front legs are removeable with the pins pulled out then 1 person can put it in the back of a car by themself, you will need 2 people if you leave the legs on.
ive got lifting chains and boltable links as well.

Cool just wondering cus we borrowed one before to get the doner engine out of another s13 but we took the engine and (manual) box out at the same time with a 2 tonne crane on the 3rd position.
This car has an automatic box which is fooking massive compared with the manual so i was just wondering when we take the engine and box out together if it needs to be lifted any higher or if it weighs too much to be on the furthest position (250kg)
I got the front bumper off so it might do it on the 3rd position (500kg) i could measure it to make sure but it doesnt say the length of jib position 3 on that website

the crane wont break it just wont go up when you try and pump it.
auto boxes weigh almost double!
they are bigger and full of more bits and bobs.
ive never used it on the short jib, always on the longest and its fine, never had an issue with it EVER my mates got a real engine crane and its so much hard work, the feet are massive and dont fit under lowered cars you have to really jack them up hige (not really and issue as you need to get the car up anyway to undo bellhouseing etc)
the arm is so bloody big you can hardly get your hands in the engine bay with it, you almost need a miror to look around the engine bay!
but his will lift 4ton
i bought mine as i needed a small crane so i could move it about in a hatchback, its that good id buy another with no hesition at all.
best bet is try it, if you can get it that is
have a look on ebay as they are very cheap now, i paid nearly £200 for mine and now they are around £150
like everything i guess I BUY IT>PRICE GOES DOWN:wack:

Cheeky mo'fo'! Damn S14 owners think their SR engines are any more reliable - they're just newer! :D And the S13 will achieve classic status sooner (not sure if thats a good thing... MGB  )
