When you are driving behind someone in a country lane, and they are sat at a nice and safe 40 mph. You start thinking arsehole, but I suppose he/she is a safe driver. Then you come into a built up 30mph area, and they still sit there at a constant 40mph. Pisses me off.

When one lorry decides to overtake another (usually on a two lane carriageway) and proceeds to struggle to crawl past taking about 5 minutes to do it, then pulling back in just in front of the truck its overtaken. Totally pointless.

Also hate tailgaters (luckily have something for them now ;)), bad bwoi Bimmer drivers, buses, people who drive too slow for the conditions, foreign drivers, caravans, Taxis. Quite a few things really

Oh, and people who tailgate someone who's going slowly with no intention of overtaking them so I have to overtake them both at once instead of the safer option of one at a time.

People driving slow lorries, tractors, jcbs etc who can see a huge line of traffic behind them but don't pull over every now and then to let people past.

People who drive slowly on twisty roads and hold me up (driving slowly fair enough if the car or driver isn't capable but...) when they get to a straight bit where it would be safe for me to overtake they speed up. I suppose they think they are helping.

People who don't look ahead any further than the end of their bonnet. Coming up to an island you can usually see clearly whether there is any traffic coming but these people slow down nearly to a stop on empty islands.

People asleep at traffic lights who don't go straight away when the light turns green.

OMG you've started something now - I'm going to have to stop before everyone thinks I'm JB ;)

Oh, and people who stop for no other reason than to let someone in/out of a junction. I'm all for giving way when I'm in a line of traffic etc but to stop on an otherwise empty road??

I really must stop now!

Funny you should mention this, my main gripe is not the actual people on the roads but the people who design them/organise repairs to them (or not as the case may be).

There is a roundabout I have to use which depending on where you start off at the outside lane actually goes past a few junctions before turning off. This means other people from further round the roundabout are in a further inside lane need to turn left even though you are still going round which means an accident. This very thing happened to my sister, and every day people almost take me out peeping their horn shouting maniac etc even though I'm in the correct lane!

Bad design is to blame here and countless accidents/injuries must have been caused by this crap and purely thought out system.

Rant over.

I usualy feel like shooting someone on every trip for a whole variaty of reasons, say hello to captain road rage people;) I once got cut up by some twat and gave him some verbal and he pulled over and so did I he got out with a pair of nunchaker thingies. This made me even madder so I stormed up to him and he thought better and threw them into the back of his car which probably saved him a good hiding. I've also punched the windscreen out on the M25 when some rep undertook me and gave me the bird when I flashed him, I think he saw it as he pulled over and out of the way.
If I could fit cannons I would, just 1 sidewinder under the right hand side of the idiot sat in the fast land at 50 to flip him out of the way:mad:  my car would be a "Nissan 200sx S13 Apache edition" :D:D and no caravan would be safe on the roads

I hate "special ****stables" who think it's their duty to enforce speed limits on all those behind them. This is why you need a large amount of power so when they boot it up to 60, you boot it up to about 100 and get past them ;)

OLD PEOPLE!!!

If your driving, and you get caught up behind someone going stoooopidly slowely, you can be sure they'll have hair like a silver acrylic wig, and be older than the arc. If they are female and old, they'll sit so close to the wheel that thier glasses touch it, and the pace will be even slower.

People using lanes 2 and 3 when lane 1 is clear  Why not move over??? To reinforce a point its nice to cut accross (nice 'n' close ;) ) after passing strainght in to the inside lane, or pass on the inside - well it is moving faster than the other lanes :D

But to single one out in particular I'd have to pick fcuking Corsa/Saxo kiddies who think they're better than Nigel Mansell and have such great car control they can race in town centres or drive 1mm away from my back bumper.

I flashed some turd to move over on the m6 yesterday (tho I don't normally flash tbh), stuck on the inside lane doing 60mph in a Rover with a clear stretch for miles ahead of them and a 10 mile tailback behind them!! arghh!

Anyone think that motorway driving should be a part of the driving instruction/test? I did pass plus after I did my test for this very reason.

I always do that too!

Another thing that pi55es me off on motorways is people who, when the motorway is busy, move out from the inside lane when they are approaching a junction or a motorway interchange. I'm thinking specifically where the M5 joins the M6 near J10. I'm sure they think they are helping the people joining the motorway, maybe they are, but they are not helping the people behind because when they move out to lane 2 the guy there either has to brake or he moves to lane 3 which then has to brake. Each person has to brake a bit harder because of reaction times and eventually everything comes to a stop. Why don't the people in the inside lane lane use their heads and slow down a bit to increase the gaps between them which will allow the traffic joining to slip in and everything would be smoother.

- Horse Boxes.
- Old gits who drive really, really slowly
- people who leave fog lights on when when it's not foggy
- people who pull out right in front of me when I'm doing 60 mph and then drive along at a nice "safe" 12 mph
- Horse boxes ( yep, they really p!ss me off )
- People in the middle lane of a motorway for no good reason
- People who stop on a really busy road to let someone out
- Horse boxes - I really fcukin hate them

I take it Papa, that you have not driven a lorry...

Momentum is everything - just be patient, you can roar off into the distance when the traffic clears. When you're limited to 56mph and lugging 40 ton its a whole different ball game.

Also, the amount of car drivers that fail to appreciate that a 40 ton lorry takes some stopping!

If you remove the limiter, a fully laden artic with a good tractor unit will do anywhere up to 120mph!!!!

What would you rather? 40 tons restricted to 56mph and the inside 2 lanes? or 40 tons tailgating you at 120mph in the outside lane???

Leave lorry drivers alone.

I have to agree with Dunk on that one

It takes a lot of effort and concentration to get one of those f'rs from point a - b. Especially when idiots cut you up on roundabouts force you to slow down uneccessarily then you've got to start again working your way up through the gears.

Now MPV's driven by midgets they're scary:D

The TW*T on the M62 the other night that I followed out of the services near Huddersfield (after my Optimax fix:D ) onto a streaming flow of trucks and cars all going to fast for the really heavy rain. He was in a Fiesta (95 ish, blue 5 door, if you see him please ram him into a ditch!) and slowly accelerating. Barely made 50 as we merged onto the motorway. I was looking to overtake, as lots of traffic was looming down on us, when he hits the anchors and slews all over the road ending up half on the hard shoulder. What the Feck yells I. Then I see him picking up the mobile phone he's just dropped...........
C*NTING GREAT TW*T!!!!!!!!
I gave him full beam and a long honk and HE starts going ape sh*t! Head out of window shaking HIS fists! I of course responded with a few deft hand movements and overtook him as he came off at Huddersfield. As I didn't chase him he'll never know how quickly a Disklok can pass through a sh*t cars windscreen.

My point is not that lorries are slow. My point is that there is no need (IMHO) for them to overtake another lorry going maybe .05 mph slower than what they are doing, especially on two lane carriageways. Or even worse pulling out to overtake, then finding they can't get past and backing off before pulling back in. I've no argument with them overtaking if they can do it comfortably and if theres a certain amount of consideration for other road users...

People on the outside lane of the motorlane travelling at the same speed or only fractionally faster than those on the inside lane.

But this is the whole point - with 40 tons restricted to 56mph, you have to think in terms of miles for everything.

Not being funny, but you have to drive one to appreciate what is involved...

Papa Lazarou, you have my vote.

I've often seen artics taking up all three lanes over taking each other, which results in bloody great tailbacks.

I've also nearly been killed by a lorry driver doing one of the above tricks, pulling out from the inside lane in front of me when I was passing in the middle lane, leaving me about 3 feet between me and him in which to reduce speed from 70 to 56.

Cheers,

Will

I have, with my dad and a few mates. I agree that people dont understand that when your loaded and have to use every gear it's a pain in the arse when people keep slowing in front of you. But I also know what truck drivers are like, cut one up and your sure to get the rolling roadblock treatment further up the road from his buddies who he let know via cb. My old man and mates always used to do it along with using there sheer size to win most situations. There also the lock the trailer brakes on to fill the tailgators car with rubber smoke ploy, which is well funny ;) but I do get annoyed when they do the roadblock thing even though I've been in lorries doing it. another thing is that 5mph more (which it realy only usualy is ) means alotwhen your driving with a taco and have to find somewhere to park up, it could also mean the difference between a night in the cab or a night at home. I sympathise with them but still get annoyed, they could at least wait for me to get past!!! I know! I'll get a CB fitted to the sx and then I can tell them to get out of the way. anybody heard of handbag queen of the north?

Martin T

@Dunk

My point is that at 1 MPH faster than the truck that you want to overtake saves you 10 MINUTES FOR EVERY 10 HOURS YOU DRIVE! Meanwhile, you cost each and every car for about 3 miles about 10 minutes - thats say 500 cars x 10 minutes = 5000 minutes = 83 Man hours to save yourself upto 10 minutes in a whole day! Thats just pointless. If he's doing 50, then fine, if its 53 or above, then leave it - it makes fvck all difference.

Oh and BTW I drive a white van for a living.:D

I had my horse for 10 years. When I lived in the middle of Dartmoor, exercise was not a problem.
I can't speak for the rest of the country but down around here riding is ****. There are sod all bridle paths and the ones there are, are in such a bad condition that riding along some of them are dangerous. Bridle paths are not kept in the same condition as footpaths. It use to be up to the farmers to look after them and most of them don't give a ****.

Also, horses have very delicate legs. If they break a bone it usually means they have to be destroyed (unless you have a lot of money or good insurance). They need to have strong tendons and muscles to support them. The best way to build up these muscles, etc is by doing roadwork. This means that we have to be on the road.

I have never been rude or impolite to any driver unless they drive past dangerously. Horses need respect and patience. The same way you have to keep an eye on ****ing kids on their bikes.

Dave_S
05-12-2002, 11:17
Here here,

I always slow right down when passing a horse / turn off stereo and try not to boot it afterwards incase it startles them. Am I doing pointless things here or is it appreciated?

Dave

Hayley
05-12-2002, 11:24
It is very much appreciated. :D
Riding on the road is dangerous but unfortunately it is necessary. I always thank drivers unless they act stupidly. Most people will warn other drivers if they are having problems or ask you to wait if the horse is being a complete prat. You just have to be aware that they can suddenly jump out and give them a bit of room.

Horses can be very unpredictable. Mine wouldn't worry about a lorry going past, but a leaf in the hedge would scare the **** out of her if she thought about it.

I have seen the damage a horse can do to a car. Mine onced backed up into a Capri and pushed the wing in. :D They are strong creatures.

Jeez,

Where to start, how about:

- People driving around with their fogs on
- Idiots driving with no lights on at night (you wouldn't believe how many I see of those around)
- People who pull out of side roads and block on side of the road, assuming that traffic on the other side of the road will let them out
- Drivers who seem to think thta parking in bus stops, so that they can go to the local KFC is acceptable
- People who've no idea on how to complete such a basic action as parking between the white lines in a car park
- Drivers who have no braking distance, so preventing you overtaking a single car at a time, resulting in either having to pass 3-6 cars in a single shot, or just giving up
- Drivers who drive everywhere at 40mph. Do they use cruise control?
- Drivers who hit the brakes on spotting a Gatso, despite the fact that they're not even braking the speed limit. Do they all suffer from a serious level of guilty concionse?
- Drivers who forget what the left hand lane on a dual carriageway/motorway is for
- Drivers who endanger my safety and theirs by having no braking distance behind me
- Lorry drivers who insist on trying to intimidate me by driving so close that I can't see their number plate
- Drivers who have forgotten that buses actually have the right of way to pull out from a standstill, even into moving traffic
- Drivers at the front of a line of traffic at night, who've forgotten that they have a main beam setting, meaning that if you want to overtake them, you've no idea where the road goes. That is, until you pass them, when they suddenly remember

Strangely, most of the above appears to be much worse in the London area, than in almost any other area of the UK that I've driven. Are Londers just more f..king stupid than the rest of the UK?

I got a Berlingo HDi. Its got 110 BHP and only just weighs over a ton (unladen). I've had it do 110 on the speedo, but I dont think it was that fast in real life.
There is nothing more satisfying than seeing one of them Nova SR's or whatever with their Big bore etc giving it everything, and you're still 4 inches off their bumper. Then they pull over and you sail past. The look of abstract horror on their faces is worth it every time:D :D :D

My pet hates include (but are not limited to) the following:

1. People using the wrong lane at roundabouts.
2. People sitting at a junction and watching you for 10 seconds coming towards them, then pulling out right in front of you.
3. People (especially old people) wearing hats while driving.
4. People who drive everywhere at 40mph.
5. People who drive too slowly for the current conditions.

Of course us Northerners survive down Saff.

Remember being Sat at the lights in London as soon as they changed to Green the fella behind started hitting the Horn (I was in a 1.1 R5 at the time) this went on for 3 sets of lights and then I let someone in from a Side Street and he honked at that so the next set of lights when it went Green I stayed still, he honked again, so I got out of my car holding my Wheel Brace, Smiled at him and walked over, he just rammed it in Reverse and Fecked off as fast as he could, soft Southern Puff

All of the above, again :) But especially:

People who hog the outside lane when there's no need to
People who drive with their rear fogs on
Those who drive at a reasonable speed on country lanes, except when it's bendy and they have to slow down to 25mph  (happened to me last weekend)
Volvo drivers - they always cut me up
People who insist on right of way when they're in the third lane and they know *full well* it merges into 2 lanes 10 yds ahead

That last...think it was only my gender that saved me from a kicking lol. On the road I go home on there are 3 lanes which merge into 2 just past the traffic lights. Had a guy in a Citroen van just behind me as we left the lights, so he booted it to get past me (& I couldn't boot cos there was a car in front). I know that traffic merging from the right has priority but I was being arsey lol. So he tried to move over...I was in the way...Berlingo vs prized 200sx......I held out as long as I could but when I started fearing for my wing mirrors I gave way. As he pulled in, in front of me, I.....errr.... gestured :D Next thing I know, he was climbing out his driver's door  :( Fortunately I think he rethought when he saw what sex I was...either that, or I looked so mean that he thought better of it :D Laughed at him, at the time...but made me realise on the way home what an escape I'd had :( Anyway, made me resolve not to drive so aggressively in the future :(

Buy a nice Crook Lock, also doubles as a security device when you leave your car in a dodgy area, my Wheel Brace has now been relocated to the boot on the advice of a friendly copper
