View Full Version : Scottish meets!!!!!!!!
I was speaking to Jonnyspeedbumps and Dobergoose yesterday, and we decided between us that we should arrange a meet of sorts between the scottish contingent.
The English guys have done it in the south and midlands, and Chris (carnut) has been starting to arrange this for the Welsh boyz.
This leaves us trailing behind guys (and girls if there are any out there).
Id like to guage reaction from all Scots (or north English if ud like to travel up) as to what u would think about a regular meet, maybe fortnightly or monthly.
Im looking for who would be up for it, and who wouldnt (reasons y not if they are constructive), and what u reckon would be the best place to meet, i mean area, and actual place.
Id obviously like Glasgow area, but if there are gonna be some Edinburgh or Fifers coming then wat about bathgate or livingston or.....?
And wat sort of place? i know the english guys meet at a pub, im not so sure this is a great idea, but will go with the majority.
McD's or sommat? or even a big car park is fine.
All suggestions welcome.
Does not just apply to sxoc members, anyone can come if they want to, preferably in 200's, but then i certainly realise (better than most id imagine:rolleyes: ) that u cant always have the 200 on the road.
So let me know what u think guys, there at the very least 12 Scots who post on the board resonably regularly, ill expect a reply from all of u.
Kev
Regular Scottish meets are a brill idea as it will give me a chance to get some ideas as to what's been done tuning wise to other cars.
Just let us know when/where.
Weegieboy!

aye I like the glasgow idea but their is a McD's in Kirky:D
I'm not bothered really, anywhere's fine, what about somewhere scenic like the trossachs , bloody good roads.
I went to Strathy Cruise last night... i know i know but... but....
ahh bollucks.
We could go and set up our own little corner
just an idea

Yep, I'm defo up for a regular meet...... but where? Hmmm....
Jim, nice to see you on the boards again mate, hope your 2***** is healthy :) .
Martin, not a bad idea mate somewhere scenic with 'blattable' roads sounds good :D .
I'm not totally against the pub idea myself - self restraint an' all that  ! Might be nice to have the option of somewhere warm to sit and have a lemonade, take a piss etc.

This applies to me at the moment :(
The meets are a good idea though, so I'll turn up if possible. Meeting at a pub sounds like a good idea, I don't fancy cruising around Maccy D's TBH. I'll go with the majority though :)

I wouldnt mind this idea, cos its less than 2 miles from me, i could just push the car there:rolleyes: :D
But errr there is the BBC's to worry about(and no Jonny i dont mean u) i dont really wanna find a nova shaped dent on my 200 cos "oh, ur right i dont know how to do a handbrake turn"
Good response so far boyz, keep them coming.
If u wanna go with the pub idea, thats cool, what about a pub up at the trossachs then? Somewhere warm, and a good blat on the way home.
Oh Martin, the kirky 1 is mingin p:)

I feel the need to defend myself here just incase anyone who hasn't met me thinks I'm a Kappa tracksuited, Nike cap wearing, Buckfast swilling Nova SR ("that's 1400cc's of pure power chief!!!") owner...... is that stereotypical enough? :D
I work for the BBC in Glasgow, well, until my contract finishes in two weeks I do.

WTF?
If you've got something to say, you can say it in front of the whole class :D
IMPORTANT:-
Who was it that recently had to get a CAS for their s13? How much did it cost you?
Cheers guys,
Dunc.
Dunc, it was Dobergoose that needed a CAS, and he got my last spare im afraid.
I think they are generally going for £20-40 on the bb, but Martin and i have a swapping parts arrangement going on where we basically owe each other half a car:rolleyes: :D :D :D
Actually, the next time u come round, can u bring one of the faulty ones mate, cos i wanna take it apart and see y so many of them are failing around this time.
Kev
Something fail, on my car - how dare you! :p

I wouldn't be surprised, LOL.
Someones wanting to buy my spare, so was wondering what they are worth, that was all. What goes wrong when one breaks?
Cheers Kev,
Dunc.
I was actually meaning Martin cos he has 2 faulty ones, not u Dunc:rolleyes: :p
What goes wrong is that ur timing goes all over the place and the car does all sorts of funny things.

My first CAS went and the car ran on 2 cylinders, the second went as I was driving and it made a loud bang, and engine just died, wouldn't restart at all.
No problem Kev I'll drop one off soon, I got new front shocks today still to fit them though and my front pipe for my exhaust.
Pipe looks weird, can't remember what the one thats on looks like but nothing looks like its at the right angle. I'll find out on Sunday when I fit it (it'll be raining on Sunday then)

what about a RR shootout sometime when it's a bit warmer and I've got my exhaust?

I like the idea of a RR session but it'll be a while before my cars ready for it.
I'm sure I'm not alone.

What do u mean???????
Surely ur not infering that mine wont run, Duncs is off the road and jonny has fook all compression.;)
Btw i read ur first post and thought better check if he has spring compressors...........
Yeah i bought them bout 2 moths ago for the chassis swap.
Just let me know when u want them Martin.

If we have a RR meet then I think we should use Star Performance.
It's more central and I have heard that people like their service better than AVA provides.

Mike i know its a bit far for u to travel, probs u as well Kev, maybe u guys would be able to arrange sommat further up north?

Count me in for the regular meets.
My s13 is still poorly - but I've got my eye
on my mates 98 s14 in A1 condition.
But I reckon he won't sell until jan or feb.
i would be up a fun drive in the country, followed
by a pub lunch & cola.
It would be worth it too see a convoy of 200's
scareing the s**t out of people along the way.
the scooby boys do it month - fnarr fnarr - so
why can't we
do we do something before christmas?
or are we taking about next year?
Cheers

no Falkland are completely different. they don;t have a RR. Ihave haad my car on Stars rollers twice. can't complain.
'tis a bit outta the way but I'd come down for a RR meet. Also i'm far too old and sensible for drinking cola and scaring other road users!

Star not that far. we had a few cars down from aberdeen
I'm not in a 2***** but in an MR-2. I know the perfect place for a Scottish meet.
There is a Brewers Fayre pub called 'Brucefield Farm' which has a massive car park, an extensive food menu and bar and plenty of seating space. Just round the corner from it leads to the best driving road I know of, 6 miles (or more if you do an extended run - leads more into the Lanarkshire countryside) of pure driving pleasure between Livingston and the Harburn / Woolfords area and no piggies in sight.
The pub is located in Brucefield Industrial Estate, Livingston and is a 5 minute drive away from the Bathgate or Livingston A899 turn-offs of the M8 Motorway.
Would this not be the perfect place for those from both the East / West and Central Scotland to meet?
Any takers? Say on the 1st of each month at 8PM?
I could handle Livingston, is it a turbo MR-2 you've got Thunder?
Dunc.
Naw, it's a G-Ltd. Bought it cheap at an auction as a runaround / toy for me to play with :)
Really enjoying it tho, prolly import a newer Turbo version later next year once I sort my finances out.
I would be up for a scottish meet, and star performance is a good idea i have been. s14a 1999 (t)
FAO Thunder.
Thats wat i like to see mate, take the bull by the horns!!
Livi is ok for me, and the Brucefield is a nice place also if its the one im thinking about (at the bottom of livi at an industrial est?)
So can we have definites then?
Or other suggestions.
Its all open guys, but Thunders suggestion seems a good one to me.
Jonny, is this a bit far for ya m8?
Also the 1st of Jan is recovery or more drinking time so wat about maybe the middle of January for the first one, then the 1st of the month after that??
Input please guys.
Kev
ps. Hello and welcome wells, y have we not seen u b4 cos u have 50 odd posts?
Well this is the first time that I have looked at the NORTH section of the site. But any meet sounds good to me mate:D

Sounds good to me guys!
Kev, did you get my PM mate?
Yep that's the very place Kev. Nice place as has been said and plenty blattable roads around it!
Middle of january sounds good to me for a 1st meet. Monday the 20th January anyone? 8PM? Or earlier if people can make it.
I went to the Mascrat meet on Monday there and it was nice so why shouldn't we have our own Scottish meet? We can get japmeets involved too so there are more than just SX's there.

Why is it called a G-Ltd? I thought the non-turbo ones were GT's? Is it a limited edition with leather seats etc (usually silver)?
How much did it cost you?
Nope, G-Ltd is the well specced NA one in Japan and a G is a happy shopper version of the NA. GT is the top spec turbo with toys and leather etc. and the GT-S is the normal turbo with toys and lots of optional extra's to determine the final spec.
It cost me £1,600 at the auction and then £400 for brakes and a full service kit to get it on the road. I then spent £350 on a set of 4 Goodyear Eagle F1's for it as the budget tyres that were on it were too much fun, especially with the winter weather coming in fast - I could powerslide out of junctions without really trying. So total spend was £2,350 inc. the rubber.

No u wont, ull say u will like u said u would with the chassis swap, then ill see u for an hour or two in the 2months it took.
  :p :p :D :D
Thunder, i might well be an elitist snob here, but tbh id rather keep in to 200 owners, or at least sxoc bb posters for the first meet at least.
If we find that we cant keep the numbers up then sure invite some other clubs in, but i dont really wanna be drowning in a sea of civics(no offence to anyone owning a civic, just that i dont feel they are individual as u can do them up really easily, and there are loads of them around).
On the other hand if it was maybe kept to jap turbo cars....... but id still prefer it was a sxoc meet first and foremost.
What do u other guys think?
Maybe post another thread??????

Guys u might wanna take a look at this thread:-
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&postid=215279#post215279
North trackday in april i think.
Im up for it, and do i hear that??? "convoy, convoy, convoy"!
I could be up for a convoy, I'm provisionally booked already, I just need to see about time off work and where I'm gonna be starting off from on the day:)
Nah Kev I think it's fair to make it anything jap as otherwise it just isn't gonna happen as a regular fixture. We all know the gold amongst the ****e when it comes to cars and tbh I don't think we would have a problem with loadsa RICERS. I was at the Mascrat meet and there was only 2 Honda's that turned up, both were Prelude VTEC's.
BTW I'm already fully booked and paid up for the trackday but I'll be going to Lenagh's a couple of days before and travelling in convoy with him in his S14a from Liverpool on the day. We're hoping to get a m8 to come along with a tranny van for us to chuck some track day rims / tyres in and other spares.
In my opinion the more the merryier (sp?) in regards to a regular meet, given the amount of "my 200's off the road" posts in other Scottish meets threads (me being a major culprit!), but whatever is fine by me. I might even get my 200 on the road in time to turn up
Thunder, sounds like a nice car you've got. There's a SERIOUSLY quick white MR2 Turbo that goes to crail sometimes, he whoops everybody :( :o Think he makes low to mid 13's, not sure though.
dobergoose
16-12-2002, 22:45
Anyone interested in hireing Crail for a day.
If we get enough people it'll not be too expensive.
Yeh Dunc the revision 3 MR2 Turbo's (94 on) will crack 60mph in just under 5 seconds,162mph top speed and a 13 sec 1/4 mile out of the box. Very underrated car IMO :)
I'd be up for a more local trackday at Crail. What did you have in mind and when?
Crail for the day! very tempted, but sounds very expensive! would we get "track" time too? perhaps some driver training?
dundeeguy
17-12-2002, 22:03
I emailed Crail raceway before about prices, the reply was
"1/4 mile days are £6.00 entry and £15.00 for the 1/4. Track days are £35.00 for all day action as is private hire."
Not got a clue of what numbers are requiered, but seems quite well priced.
Driver tuition is available from some Lotus driver. Or I can show you a few demo runs (of course I use the paying customers car! :p ;) :D  )
Cheers

Got a reply from Crail, we would need 10 cars @ 35pounds each, half the money up front and all we need do is choose a date and check the day is available.
Sounds good.
I'm up for that:D :D :D count me in!!!!!! Nobby.
Martin, id be up for it if im on the road, which im sure i will be!
Best to start another thread with a poll mate.

I hope it ain't needing a clutch Gee. Its a bit of a job to do. Gave my mate a hand to remove the g/box. Not an easy task unlike the 200.
I think the 200 is more reliable than the gti-r. We'll be seeing times in the 13 secs from you next year then Gee.
Who you buying the gti-r from? I can ask my mate if he knows of him, just in case of any 'bad' history.
Dundeeguy,
I am buying it from a local lad I know. He bought it from Calder motors 2 yrs ago for £9000:eek:
He has already fitted an HKS Paddle Clutch, HKS Filter, HKS BOV and it has a Quaife gearbox as well.
He has all receipts and it has been worked on solely by Hiteq in Wigan, the GTi-R specialists.
All I need to get is a Big Brake kit:D

Whats the story with ur 200?
The story now is......... it runs:D :D :D
What bout u?
Pump?
When do u guys wanna arrange this for?
Thunder, whats ur plan here? tell ukjap meets (or whatever its called) about it?
I propose a thursday night the 16th of January, bout 8pm?
(monday nights i usually am busy)
this would basically be 2 weeks on thursday.
Opinions please
Kev
I'm easy as to what night it's on. The plan is to arrange a definite 1st meet date and time and also a regular monthly meet date and time thereafter and then tell JapUK about it.
So far I have:
First Meet Thursday 16th January 2003 - 8PM Brucefield Farm, Livingston.
Regular meet - 1st of every month thereafter - 8PM Brucefield Farm.
This OK with everyone then? Need to know soon to get the wheels rolling.
P.S. We should bring our ladyfriends to break up the testosterone! Worked well at Mascrat ;)
