Is there any computer people in the Peterborough area who can install a motherboard. (Just screw it in a case, all correct software is already installed on Hdd).
I sold a computer to a bloke in Peterborough and it looks like the board has come loose in transit. He of course is blaming me and being a real pain in the ar$e about the whole thing.
I will happily pay somone to sort this out for me as this machine has been back to me once as the ram was loose. Don't know what he does with them as they are fine when they leave here.

It isn't really a mobo problem as that it needs re-screwing in. (I hope). The guy mailed me a pic and it looks like the board is loose in the machine. God knows how this came about. I reckon the worst case senario is a new main board if it's been damaged.

I don't know M8. I can't be certain what's involved untill somone looks at it and tells me. It should be just a case of putting the board back in place. How much would you charge me for doing that?

I live in Colchester, so its £20 for mileage plus ill want £35 for the callout. If its anything more than 1 hour (which I doubt), then I'll do the next hour for £10. I used to do warranty work for Tiny untill they got bought out. To say if its the M/b for definate (maybe some of the cards might be damaged aswell), i'll need a replacement to test it with.
Its probably too expensive for you to bother with, but if you can get 3 or more jobs in a day, then for a full day I'll work for £20 mileage plus 12p per mile and £80 for the day.
When I was doing the Tiny work, when the computers had their faullt diagnosed, I could get up to 10 jobs done in a day (that were spread over a large area, though). I have all of the relavent qualifications, and have been tinkering with computer hardware for at least 6-8 years.

It is deffo the motherboard but I don't know if it's broken or just come loose. It defo looks loose, the guy sent a photo. I sold the system to the guy and he's accusing me of deliberately sending faulty goods (Like I need the hassle). The printer port, PS2 ports etc have been pushed in. The board is a PC Chips M810 LMR so the only add on card is the modem which seems to be intact.
The board is screwed onto little "pylon" type things that clip into the case and I think that they may have been shaken loose in transit.
I'll have to have a think about this as it is getting quite expensive as you say. Specially if all it is is loose screws.
Cheers though M8.

Did you build the computer yourself? If so, you can stop these probs by using the screws with the funny washers(look like a washer thats been cut on one side) on then - they're designed to stop the screws from undoing themselves.

I don't think it's the screws that have come undone. I reckon it's the little pyramid shaped pylon things that clip to the case that have come loose. They are probably still attached to the motherboard but I'm too far away to check my-self and the guy is being stupid about the whole thing.

If you want to save yourself some money, use a 3rd party collection service from a courier company, arrange a time for it to be picked up and you pay for the service when you get the goods. You can then fix it and send it back. Tell him to stuff the case with bog roll or something for transit back to avoid potentially damaging components that were fine.

I did that When the RAM was loose M8. I don't know if the courier is at fault or if it's the guy himself. Never had anything like this before. He won't send it back and wants it done in Peterborough.
I wish he was closer.(For a couple of reasons;) ).

What have you got to lose by just telling the akward git to fuk off??

If he won't be resonable and have it couriered to you and back then tell hime there's nowt you can do.

Did you sell it eith a 'RETURN TO BASE' warranty btw??

I covered the last return cos the courier did it for free due to a claim for damages caused by them. The guy now says that he has no confidence, doesn't believe that the courier is @ fault and thinks I deliberately sent faulty goods. Or that's what he says.
He's threatened me with just about every official body that there is then offered to fix it himself if I pay him £100.00
I wish I knew VooDoo or something.:D

But did you sell it specifically with a RTB warranty???

If you stated the warrantly was on a RTB basis then you can tell him to either have it shipped back or he can go fuk himself.

He sounds like a ***** though, what does he expect you to do? jump on a bloody plane to his house just to tighten up some screws.
