View Full Version : Raised issue with Apex induction kits - investigation results
Re this thread and reported faults with our filter kit:

Ok, Ive just gone and checked a number of random samples:
1) There is zero swarf, even running my hands all over the adpater produced nothing, nada, zip. Not even any dust. Theyre perfectly clean.
2) The quality of our casting is if anything superior to Apexi. The casting is sharp and clean with machined flat mounting faces and perfectly acceptable internal and external surfaces. Pics to show coming soon.
3) The mounting holes on the filter to adapter side all line up perfectly. I havent been able to check the AFM side just yet as I dont have one to hand but Ive just asked a mate to bring his S14a down and he is, right this minute, starting to test fit a kit so we can check :)
Pics will follow once we have tried fitting the adapter to the AFM.
EDIT: The adapter is now bolted to an S14a AFM and mounted straight up, no misalignment, perfect fit.
Pictures taken just now using a randon Apex kit thats untouched, uncleaned and unmodified. Just as they come:
Apex with genuine Apexi filter to adapter gasket layed over to show correct hole alignment:

i fitted one of your kits last week... the adaptor plate was perfect:thumbs: the only issue i had is that the gasket to go between the AFM and the adator plate was for some completely different car and it didnt fit at all.... i had an unused gasket here already so just used that...
i should mention that i bought the kit unused and still in its box off an sxoc member and not directly from you... so maybe the proper gasket was lost or something by him.:)
but the plate was perfect:thumbs:
Theres two adapter with the filters, one round one to go between afm and filter and a spare. The spare isnt used
Must also highlight that I got one of your kits a while back and found everything to be perfect. Didn't use the spare gasket either. I found no swarf or misalignment :)

Pics of all the above are now being taken.
Mine arrived on my doorstep this morning so will have a go at fitting it tomorrow!! I'm sure it will be perfect! :D

The question doesnt seem to have been asked... are you sure it was an Apex one? could it be someone selling cheap knock off ones under your name /reputation. (people copy HKS/Apexi etc, why not your stuff....?)
On a completely off-topic note, a rougher finish on a casted item is better for airflow. The uneven surface causes tiny swirly things to form which act .. well .. kind of like bearings do for solid things, and allows the air to flow through more smoothly and with less resistance. It's why golf balls have dimples :)

no i didnt.....
ok, I was aware I might be throwing a spanner into someones works but I stand by it.
My adapter had the rough casting seams like the one in the picture, they had been poorly machined so I tickled them up a bit to remove loosely attached swarf. I can be unecessarily meticulous sometimes but in this case it needed doing, two minute job, no problem.
The holes that were problematic were the ones on the side to the filter, I didn't have to alter them to get it to fit but it was a bit of a bitch.
While I'm at it, the pictures remind me, I had to bend the support straps into some crazy shapes to make them fit. This took a half an hour with a vice and a big hammer. Maybe I did it all wrong, the diagram had all this funny writing on it, it was all double dutch, or japanese, I don't know.
On a good note, can't fault the service at Apex, friendly and helpful.
Cheers, Bob.

Hi, I fitted the apexi one and sold my apex one to IRISHPADDY (Posted a few up^^^^^^^^^) The apexi came without the gasket you recieved paddy......I wondered why I didn't have the gasket but it's not needed. I've got to say the apex one was of better quality I just fell in love with the apexi logo:wack: Buy with confidence from apex performance:thumbs: Scott.

Did you use the bush under the filter support, wher it runs down to the chassis leg :)

Is it definately an Apex kit and not Apexi? Does it have Apexi stamped on it?
