View Full Version : How fast is a Radical?
Not fast enough :D
http://www.ultima-gtr.info/movs/castle.mpeg
I posted this in the members area, but thoughtr more need to see it.......
BTW, the yellow monster is an Ultima Sport ;)
hmm.... That reminds me of the silliest race I have ever partaken of.....
My mate with his 345bhp/488lb-ft anti-lag 3dr Cossie Rally Car
Me with my Grp B tarmac-spec 270bhp Manta 400 rally car
Out arsing about, doing some errr shakedowns (me on slicks) Now the Cossie was just plain bonkers - absolute missile. The Manta was full grp B 895kgs fibreglass madhouse geared for 125mph flat in top.
We came across the local Ultima, pootling along with his mate in his 4.5 Cerbera. For those that don't know, 4.5 Cerbera are insanely fast.
I think the machine gun stacatto of the anti-lag on the Cossie sort of instigated the following event coming out of a roundabout onto the 3 mile straightish stretch of the Horsham bypass.
1) Cossie followed by Manta dive up the inside on the roundabout. Cossie flameout fails to melt Manta's nosecone
2) Out the roundabout the Ultima pulls alongside the Cosworth.
3) Ultima driver looks over at Ragged out Cossie
4) Cossie and Ultima pulling away from Cerbera which in turn is pulling away from the Manta
5) Manta hits the limiter in top
6) At this point (according to my mate in the Cos) the Ultima waves to him, and then just absolutely fcuks off. Big time.
The Ultima is the biggest hardest muvverfcuker to ever have four wheels and a number plate.
I want one.
You sort of could say that,
After building one for 2 years and being a regular passenger, I can assure you that the hype is REAL!

You're building one yourself? Nice :D
Whats a reasonable cost for an Ultima selfbuild to a decent standard, minus the engine (I can price that myself)?
They are utterly cool though, even better than a GT40 rep!
Helped my mate build one ;)
It cost him around £35K's and the spec is Pretty Darn high...
And we picked up a engine Bargin....Almost 10K's worth of engine for £2K.....
Its Fecking quick!

Theres a guy called Stig in the ultima forums at pistonheads.com, he's got a ~550bhp supercharged smallblock going in his, frickin' awesome! His website's really good as well, can't rmember the link but it's on his profile.
£35k eh? Whole lotta car for the money, and most of them get sold for around that (most kitcars you pay a handsome premium for the pleasure of building it yourself in instant depreciation) . . . one day, it will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine . . .
Someone should get Top Gear to race one around their track :)

I was under the impression for a medium spec one you could get all of the parts that you need for about £25,000
They can come with 800 hp from the factory!!! And they weigh 800kgs...bhp per tonne nigh on F1 standards!!
I know a guy with one in Norfolk....raced him in my SupraTT...kept up...stunned him enough to stop and ask me what it was running...
He said "I leave porsche's and ferrari's in my dust what the hell are you running under there!!"
"Ermm its just a bit tweaked over stock! {shrugged}"
Then I got home and look at the web site. he had the 5.7 must have been 400hp, his was an open top, must have stunted the acceleration, he was massively over fueling, big ass flames out the back.
********
Me him again just a week ago...its been bored out to 6l's fueling sorted...I so am NOT going to challenge him!!!!
No the big ass flames are caused by Valve overlap, and not over fueling, this is the norm for a small block chevy in a decent state of tune.
If you were keeping up, then believe me he most definetly wasnt trying his car weighs at least 40% lighter!! And it takes alot to drive an Ultima Balls out full 100% with wheelspin in 1st 2nd 3rd & 4th.
The factory ones come with 520bhp, which is compete ********, and if you ask for the full spec of the engine, they will give you everything except for the cam measurements, and from these you can get a clear indication of the power...not only this but a carbed chevy of this power DOESNT drive from cold smoothly like the factory ones do!!
£25k for a medium spec, what your gonna put up with a Renault transaxle and a rover V8...lol or a V6 cossy? Still be quick though! and Grenada Breaks.......lol
Your first ten grand gets you a climbing frame and some ally panels, £25K is HIGHLY HIGHLY OPTIMISTIC!
I'll have a look at stigs page, trouble with super chargers though is they limit the revs on a chevy, and after all with something that weighs **** all in the first place, tourque dont really matter and is a bye product of a chevy anyhow, You really do need a revy engine, Our V8 will rev to 7.5Krpm :D and of course less revs means lower top end

I don't like revvy engines, I never bother going over 5k, 5.5 tops on the Supra (red line is at 6.5), I'm a torque junky so I love the idea of a supercharged V8. So much so, I think I'm gonna build one :D
So a naturally aspirated chevy pulling near on 460lbs of foot tourque not your cup of tea then?
Believe me, when you've got that much tourque you wish you had a little less!!!!
Ultima's need BHP and REVS, otherwise your gonna have to spend thousands on a gearbox to get it reratio'd to be as quick at the top end, and these cars reach the top end IN A HURRY!
All this mouth watering talk... I expect to see this vehicle at the Top Speed Challenge 3 (which I hope Richie will be sorting out in the new year)
then i wanna ride :)
Ill see if my mate wants to come along, wheres it gonna be?
Bet we're the first car to hit the limiter in top gear :D
I easily hit the limiter in top gear (although it was on 133 :))
The last one (TSC II) was at RAF Woodbridge near Ipswitch, look at http://www.sxoc.com/site/events/tsd2/index.php for information.
Richie organises these off his own back, and I presume it's a major headache to do. However I hope he will be arranging one in the new year. He's on this board, he might reply.... ;)
In the Ultima it'll prabably be around 180+ when we do :D
Jeezus thats a mean machine :) Mmmmm must watch more videos :)
