How many of you have got Dads that can talk car all night and also give up many hours of their time tending to a beast of a car?

Mine has a mint condition Red Volvo 850R with some ace alloys.

When he got it I checked the spec and it has 250bhp through the wrong wheels. Still, it scared me. Neve thought I would go so fast in an estate.

He enjoyed telling people that his car was more powerful than mine. So i stuck a T28 on and Jez sorted me out for a chip. Mine has 260bhp now. ;)

Stopped in his tracks. No. Now he likes to tell eveyone that he can still do 150mph but with a wardrobe in the boot as well.

I don't think I will be altering my car to take such items though. If they made subs as big as wardrobes I might consider it.:)

So come on. Who else has an old man with a serious motor.

Guy is a total petrolhead, he's got one of the new 450bhp RS6's on order now the lucky barsteward

Think it was my dad that got me hooked on cars.

Hes got an MGB GT - awaiting restoration

He also has a Rover 820 Vitesse Sport, and a Merc 260

........and hes never happy when I go past him ;) :D

It was my dad who got me into cars really.

Hes built a Cobra replica with the 5.3L Jaguar V12 engine (lots of torque) and also has a twin turbo Subaru Legacy import thats about 280bhp...

He used to be a turbo nut too - had turbo Saabs for as long as I can remember but now has to put up with a w@nk V6 vectra company car...

Problem is.... I am one.

My kids (16, 13 and 9) think the car is great and are constantly at me to get more things done and improve it's looks.

They tend to forget the concept of "Where the hell do I get the money for it all" !!!

you guys are lucky... i fear the thought of my dad driving a 1.3litre car let alone anything you've described above... when he drove my sister's 1.1 fiesta he remarked that it was "powerful"! (He drives a g-reg micra 1.0 in case you were wondering, and I'm not sure he drives it that well. still, at least he's living The Nissan Dream :D :D ;) )

My dad is a total loon - on the quiet though!!

I lent him my 125cc Motorcrosser once - he disappeared down the round without a lid on...

re-appeared over the crest of the hill down the road on the back wheel. Pulled a 40ft stoppie outside the house, then slung it down and wheelspun & wheelied up the drive!!!!

Never let him out on it after that.

Lent him the 200sx once - got a text message saying he hadn't spent so long sideways since he got rid of his old Alfasud!!! And how he was amazed that you could do 140mph with the window open.

Once had the priviledge of riding shotgun with him in his old Bedford Midi van - loaded with Sparky tools - tailsliding down country lanes... with a columm shift gearchange!

He's a loony and no mistake

My Dad's got a Mondeo TD.

It goes like, er, a diesel!:D :D :D

Last year I drove to the local pub (with my Dad as passenger to take the car back as I was going on a session).

Course, this is a guy who is used to driving a TD - ie LOADS of accelerator from the off..........

I didn't see him turn the car round and pull away but I did make a remark the following day about the rubber that was snaked all over the road.

My Dad gave me a comment like 'ah, yes.....' and looked a tad sheepish and smirked a little.

Apparently he'd pulled out into a good-sized gap between cars and then snaked the bugger all over the road in an affort to get the car straight!

He doesn't make many comments about how to drive the car now......:D :D :D

He used to bring all sorts of cars home that he used to Borrow from various car manufacturers......

Imagine my supprise when his car at the time was a 1.3 Brown Mk1 escort......

What does he bring home......

A car worth the price of the street.......

An Aston Matron Lagonda

http://freespace.virgin.net/roger.ivett/13423.jpg

Well, it was white and at the time it belonged to some arab, just come off the production line. We had this beast for two weeks!!!!

Hes brought home 512 ferrari's, Rolls Royce Corneche (drop top roller, most expensive car to ever go through my local McDonalds drive through - with the top down of course) ;)

Hes brought photos back from the Porsche test track of him being driven round (albeit sideways) in more or less every Porsche.

More Photos, this time the Mercedes test track, with the HUGE banked wall....

Hes had more brilliant car experiences then most of us combined are likely to have....

Including being driven around the American GP circuit (when the ROADS WERE OPEN - it used to be a street circuit) in a Ferrari Dino doing 150+ mph in full traffic - by the USA sole Ferrari importer (that was a few years ago mind)!!!

My pop is a mechanic, he owns his place so i get a good deal now & gain on servicing :D he brought one of them lagondas home once when i was a kid. Don't they speak to you like "low fuel" and "seatbelt"

He used to rally a mini cooper when he was 20 ish. He looked over my ***** before I got it from the Garage. He took the bloke out in it and I've never seen someone look so pale faced when they came back :D ;) The bloke had to prise his fingers from around the jeezus handle :D

edit: oh and he drives a fully restored mkII 3.8 jag and a Toyota landcruiser... coz "It's the only thing that'll pull a car trailer fully loaded at a ton"

Got to admit I am a Dad too.

My son is seven and loved going out in the car with me, unfortunately he is safety and speed limit obsessed:( at the moment anyway, I'm sure he'll grow out of it.

Yet another 38 year old git here (perhaps thats why my insurance seems so low compared to some :D )

My 15 yr old lad and his mates love the car.. lots of can we do that again when the tail slides out on the roundabouts on the village bypass :D and can we go faster when we are doing a nice sedate 130

My 13 yr old daughter hates it though - would much prefer a Freelander for some reason  :( :(

Never mind..... I'm happy with it :D :D

the members of To55pot 2000. sorry, I mean Transport 2000. If they had their way we'd be hugging trees and eating lentils all day. They are your enemy. They hate you because you choose to drive.

>How many of you have got Dads that can talk car all night and >also give up many hours of their time tending to a beast of a car?

My step-father was a professional racing driver who competed in the Le Mans 24h.

2 years ago, we were in a pub near Snetteton and some bloke came up to my step dad (now 65ish) and asked for an autograph! It was amazing. My step father had been this guy's childhood hero and he used to cycle to Snetteton every time that Roy raced there and still recognised him after 40 years!

I would dearly love to 'refurbish' his old racing green helmet and give it to him for Xmas one year.

Anyway, back in the 80's he used to regularly race the local old bill and never got caught :D
He had the second ever XR4i in the country, and for the first 6 months, there were only 3 others. Now THAT was a crowd puller.
He had about 6 Capris, culminating in the 2.8i
Also, a AE86 Corolla (Which he still maintains was an amazing piece of design), Mitsubishi Cordia (remember them? I only EVER saw one other one) and.... one of the first S13s in the country :)

His was dark red and always caused spectators when parked. Would be cool if the 'new' owner was in SXOC :)

He's unaware of the full extent of mods done to my car, but is aware that something is definatly up :) When I visit my mother, she is always moaning about the car not being practical and asking about the extra 'bits' that I always say are to increase reliability (the FMIC) and increase the economy (BoV) (oh, and the stainless exaust is purely because I will never need to replace it and so it saves money) and Roy backs me up. In his own words 'It's nice to have a car that goes like hell. It's important to have a car that you really enjoy'.
I've promised him a 'go' in mine when Mr. Carter has finished with it, and he snapped at the chance. It's a dear wish that the power surprises him :D

When I was talking about drifting, he was telling me about how on the skidpan, they used to have to drive around in a circular drift, with a bowl bolted to the bonnet and they had to keep the tennis ball in it from falling out! I MUST bring him drifting some time.
