Im thinking of buying a 200sx 1998 touring for an everyday car which im going to use to work and back etc etc. I probably wont be modding it or racing it at all (the first year anyway) and ive been told they can be very dangerous in the wet.

Does anyone here own a 200sx for normal use, and how do you get on with it? Im 23, dont have kids or anything and ive had 4 years driving experience (pretty good driver) but have never driven rear wheel drive (I understand i need to give it some respect).

Any info would be much appriciated.

They are not dangerous in the wet if you take it easy. My Mrs uses an s13 as an every day car with no problems (hope I haven't jinxed it there...)

A course on a skid pan to teach you car control in a RWD wouldn't hurt, and it's a fun day out too

They're fine as an every day car. Just be sensible and spend some time learning to drive it safely.

standard car is very reliable... having said that so are many heavily tuned cars, you shouldn't have any concerns with reliability - even most high milers are solid and good.

they are scary at times in the wet, but if driven right it won't bite (hey, that rhymes!)

i'm 21 and i've only got my 1996 200 to use come rain or shine, have owned her since july and it's also my first rwd car (previously triumph 1500, rover414, nissan primera p11).... no 'incidents' yet. touch wood (looks for something wooden:D )

you do need to treat the car carefully in the wet, but if your driving style is smooth then you should'nt slide unless you *1- want it too, or *2- drive like a berk.

seems to be a good predictable car to learn the black art of over-steer in, compared to my mate's mx5. find a wet car-park to practice in.

watch the fuel ecomomy though... it's worse than i expected. BUT worth it:thumbs:

I tw*ted mine up the curb after about two weeks of owning it but just replaced a few rear arms and now i respect it alot more in the wet.:smash:

I use my 14a as a daily driver and don't have any problems. Drive steadily in the wet and don't let the boy racers wind you up and you'll be fine

I use my S13 as an everyday car. I also hurd the that they bite and was a little weary of the back end twitch. To be honest just treat the car with respect and it will respect you back. I have only had the back end out unexpectedly but that was at low speed cos i know that the conditions were bad.

Just take it easy for a couple of weeks to get use to the car and you will love everything about the car.

I think everyone will tell you the same thing.

Be careful and drive sensible, you can't go wrong. I've had my S14a for a year now and I love it to pieces :smitten: There is no way I'd even think about flying about in the wet with it, it's just not worth it.

:sxoc: excellent choice mate!

hello:wave: as it's a car site you get to see a lot of the very best modded motors around but there are a lot of standard cars about and they are great for everyday use,the s14[a] is a very refined motor but also entertaining and rewarding to drive,as well as very well built:thumbs:

The rear end steps out.
and as you have never driven a rear wheel drive i would say a skid pan is the best way to get to grips but dont recreate what you have learned at the pan on the streets and all should be fine:thumbs:

lol at keeping it standard.

first meet were you go ina simple stage one upgraded 200 and you will never go back:D

my S13 is my daily drive, its what keeps me going to work. If it was a bird, i'd run off with it. its my second RWD car (1st was another S13 :) ) If you take it easy it should take it easy on you.

Does anyone here own a 200sx for normal use

i use my s13 every day as a daily drive, it's well tuned and yes can be slippery when wet (lol van halen :ghey: lol).

as long as you are sensbile with it and read the road conditions you should bve fine, evry one on here will have had a butt clenching moment but more times than not it works out ok, you will find after a while your reactions get alot sharper:nod: , my stepped out on a roundabout a week ago and i'd corrected it with out even thinking, had a bit of a slide but it was all good. It was only after that i realised how quick i reacted with even thinking,

enjoy and welcome to the sxoc :sxoc:

Congrats, looks clean.

I use my stage 1 s14a as an everday car, short journeys to work etc. My first RWD car, had it about 8 weeks now, its not a problem in the wet so long as its driven like any other normal car - its not just going to suddenly throw you in a barrier while the fiesta in front carries on its journey - if you get what i mean.

But, do take it easy, and enjoy it
