This is my 500th post as i'vejust noticed, so i'd thought i'd actually post womething that someone might read

ACTUAL transcript of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995. This radio conversation was released by the Chief of Naval Operations on 10-10-95.

Americans: "Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision."

Canadians: "Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision."

Americans: "This is the captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course."

Canadians: "No, I say again, you divert YOUR course."

Americans: "THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH. THAT'S ONE-FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP."

Canadians: "This is a lighthouse. Your call."

Given the accuracy of the average US Military operation however, they'd probably end up hitting Greenland... ;):p

come on now Keith, that's a little unfair, the Yanks are much better at shooting their own guys than we give them credit for, if they are going to hit anywhere in that region by mistake, it's got to be Alaska!

So... what happened!! once the americans had their mind made up nothing will stand in their way!!
I feel sorry for the lighthouse keeper. May he rest in piece.
Youd have thought on the second largest aircraft carrier in america, probably not a small piece of kit, youd have thought theyd have someone who could read a map????

I sorta read the explanation of it, apparently it goes back to about the 1960's when they didn't have all this GPS stuff and computers that didn't span more that one building. I should image that it would be quite possible.
