SXOC RR day @ Alan Jeffery's March 10(please read)

hello,
i've been to see Alan Jeffery today and ok'd the rolling road for next March. This will give everyone time to do changes on their cars. We could do with around 15 cars on the road and as many spectators as possible.
The price is around £30 per session but if it changes i'll let you know. You get 3 runs for that one warm up and 2 power runs in the session.

There are somethings i would let AP do and somethings not. All in all they are a good bunch of guys who have always helped me at a drop of a hat... including coming out in the middle of the nite with a battery pack for me!!!
But generally do all the work myself, no job to big and all that! So dont really need to use them apart from sourcing OEM parts and there rollers arnt that bad...

I think everyone preffers Alan Jefferys rolling road as there is more room to watch without going deaf...

But at the end of the day its a rolling road day, not lets take our cars to the garage and get them to fix them so there mechanical skills arnt going to be used.


Each garage has its horror stories and to be fair Alan Jefferys is the most recent... but no point dragging stuff up again.

they buggered up my corvette (poor fitting of parts, charging for things they never fixed) charged my girlfriend 3k for an new engine that never worked couldnt even pass an mot, also charged her £150 for the mot it failed 1 month after their rebuild, dangerously wired up some gauges to my friends impreza, left tools in engine bay on all our cars, bolts missing etc. damage to cars (wheels etc)................... i could write pages.

alan jefferys everytime please, as i dont get on with ap at all anymore rr or otherwise (ps paul (ronin stainless systems)from longlife is down there now and is very good but nothing to do with ap)

(Of course withstanding the fact that all my finances are going towards the wedding at the moment, so I even had to bail out from getting the flexi downpipe from Bren that I had been harping on about :( Whatever happens, will at least run 1 bar for a power run and maybe as high as 1.2bar on stock turbo for the first run)

I've spoken to Alan and he's not worried about numbers but, he did mention that with all the cars being pretty much the same ie all Nissans that it won't take long to sort out:thumbs: :thumbs: so if other makes want to go on the rollers it could slow us down a bit.

One thing. This may sound really silly - but can i request for the car to be revved to 6500 instead of 7000? I see no point in taking it to the redline (it hasnt been there in my possesion yet) as power dies off after 6000/6500 anyway. IMO its just risking damage. Is this plausible? :)

Dont want any photos of mine taken... especially put in a mag. Its jus there is obviously some intrest from a few other members, so you cant really dismiss it. Besides dont worry im sure they wont hold you down and force you to have your car's photo in the mag if you dont want it...

My car feels really quick up until the damn exhaust has its tantrem and holds it back, so i stay below 5.5k revs ;) which suits the me and the weather fine at the mo, and is lovely mid-range, but unfortunately means it will be pants on the rollers as the figures only start to happen over 6k! :cry:

Are you sure it isn't the intake pipe being crushed/sucked in? Get some big jubilee clips from the guttering/washing machine/vent section of B&Q for uber cheap and use them to brace the rubber pipe against collapsing. Mine found it hard to go above 5.5k when I had that. I have one made up if you need it.

Also, I seem to recall that it may also be a boost leak....

Matthew: it will pull over 5.5k no prob, but the boos "tail-off" is greater :nod: it will hold 1 bar to 5.5k, then drop off to maybe 0.7-0.8, and its not got that "pull to the redline" feel, so i just dont use those revs :D

But i guess getting on the rollers really will tell me how much the cat-back is restrictive at top end, and hopefully prove my point about it being perfectly fine up to 5.5k ;) (i'll compare it with someone else with similar stage 1 mods :))

I've been a bit slack. What with finding out that my Cusco Zero 1s are seized :( and spending a bit of time to getting them corrected (and failing) to the whole family having flu, the car was just sitting there.

Luckily Kieran on s15oc had a full set of suspension so that is on there now :)

I also had to replace the undertray as the one i had on there was chipped, and holed. Luckily the s14a one fitted perfectly. I'll have to put a big write up of all the things i had to do for the test.

As i said it's gonna be tight. I really hope i can make this.

My sunroof leaks, my heater blowers don't work, the handbrake light is stuck on, the handbrake doesn't work properly, I don't have a manifold heatshield to protect the brake lines/clutch/throttle cable, the PAS is squeaking...etc hope I have enough time :rolleyes:

Yeah it does !! All i had to do was make a couple of brackets as it does not quite meet the bumper (misses by about 8mm). Be easy when i come to fit the FMIC too. Should force more air in.

Well the 10th is all down to whther the DVLA get the registration back in time.

Yea i have done and it was holding a solid 0.7 bar, now all of a sudden is pulsing from .2 up to .7 and over 5,500rpm climes to .9 :confused:

I've got a pipe that im going to sort that looks the likely cause but if that doesn't cure it then im stumped.

Sticky actuator perhaps adam? (Or a broken pipe to the actuator).

What are your specs Adam?

If you have 1 grade colder plugs, an FMIC you will not have a problem running 1 bar. (you could get away without plugs really, but best to be safe).

Also, explain the symptoms of when it happens please. You may have a leak.

Oh and if you have an FMIC, what the heck are you running it at .7 for???? With lag performance will be worse than standard on that! lol.

Im pretty much a full stage 1 matt;

colder plugs, Walbro, FMIC, Ind. Kit, full 3" exhaust.

I was looking at the weld today on the sleeve of where the actuator arm rotates and it has cracked but i think it is still holding it ok.

I might try a new actuator though.

I dont think i have a leak as on idle its completely steady.

Will change this pipe, if that dont fix it, new actuator, if that doesnt then i'll re-wled the arm bit, i hope it can be done in situ as there looks to be enough room.

Common to get poor fluctuating idle with a boost leak though :nod:

Also, i wouldnt worry about going up to 0.9 bar. As said, you can run 1 bar through the whole range if you want, so going to 0.9 is fine :)

It came off at 130k :| It was fine though, but I changed it to the HKS, as I was planning on upping the boost.

I'm in work wednesday, so if you can pick it up from where I work in Plymstock, that'll be fine. If not, it'll need to be an evening after 6 :)

4) Dog bone (Engine support bar - holds gearbox to subframe)

As long as that stuff is here by Wednesday, I should hopefully have enough time on Friday night (talk about cutting it fine) for the Saturday :)

Mental weather recently. Only thing I have been able to do since I bought it was one dry night, and replaced the blower motor and soldered in a new fan plug. It's been too wet for anything else :(

Can't stick it on the rolling road with a dodgy clutch pedal.
