The best maps for the midlands are on www.speedcam.co.uk

Good job you brought this up, I was about to do a post on speed camera signs. The square white ones with the black camera on it. These are posted all over where I live and I can almost certainly say that there are no cameras. They've started putting the signs up double sidded (one on each side of the post to cover both directions)!

I have never seen a speed camera or even a cop with a radar gun in my area and travel around it alot (I've lived here 10years+). There's not many roads so I doubt I'd have missed one?

Is there not any rules about this? I'd be shocked if the budget for my area even streached to buying a speed camera!

  With posts about fire fighters, TV licences, and speed cameras on the board today I'm really starting to get angry with our government today

Cheers,

Dunc.

I thought there had to be a camera somewhere within a 1km radius for them to put the signs up?

I think they're allowed to put the camera signs up wherever they like as long as they occasionally have a speed trap in that area.

"occasionally", the usual unambigious nonsense that they come away with.

How come I don't get to say "I occasionally obey the speed limit" or "I occasionally attempt a roundabout without drifting" :D

Only if the Police are keeping the money for themselves. If it goes direct to the treasury they can do what the fcuk they like (unmarked vans, hidden cameras etc.etc.)

I thought the new rules said they weren't allowed to put signs up if there isn't a camera? If there are signs where there's no camera, they're supposed to take them down by January to comply with the new rules? Something like that. Oh, and all cameras now have to be bright yellow and visible from something like 60m in a built up area and 100m everywhere else. However, I have yet to see a camera that complies with all of these (edit: except the new one by my house come to think of it). According to what I read, they must comply by January (six months from the date of the new rules or something). Bet they won't though

They're not rules, they're guidelines. If your county is involved in the hypothecation or netting-off scheme where camera fines are used to pay for more cameras  then the Home Office "adivses" that they follow these "guidelines". HOWEVER! There is no way on earth that your local authority will follow these guideline voluntarily as it might cost them money in lost revenue - you need to sit down for an hour and write a couple of letters to your local head copper and local council (you can find the addresses on the net within two minutes of looking). Politely explain your interpretation of the guidelines, give clear examples of where they have been breached, and ask for clarification as to why this is the case.

Don't tell us lot, we can't do anything - tell the people who make the decisions and you may well be surprised by the results. At the very least, it will remind them that not everyone agrees with this barmy bloody scheme to ban as many drivers as possible!

I saw on some program a whole section on speed cameras.

The gray ones, the tresuary gets all the money, and the yellow 1's, it gets shared with the local police!

What about the blue (ie stealth) ones? There's quite a few of those by where I work.

They're just traffic monitors, for like the AA and that. They can tell the police if someone is raging it along tho.

theyve got one in shillingstone in dorset (the warning sign not the camera) they also used to have a sign saying something like 2017 motorists caught so far this year. what a load of bo..ox
if every one in the country acted all at the same time ie one dark night and removed all the speed cameras from all over the country and just stashed them in the back of their garage it would take years to replace them all and we could have pleasurable motoring once more. not that i would incite any one to do this, it was just a thought
