PC Owners - possibly one of the most fun, time-wasting games you can get .. and it's freeware :)

Crimsonland v1.4.0 - Remember Robotron? Well it's a bit like that, using (for best effect) keyboard and mouse.

So, for anyone who has played it before, or anyone trying it out for the first time, let's have a little 'challenge' :D Post your best scores here. F12 in the game takes a screenshot. I'll be back in a sec with my current best score...

I cant play it!! Just downloaded it, tried to run it and get the error msg; Grim.dll is corrupted or missing. Install DX8.1 or above.
I thought I had the latest DIVX codec but cant find 8.1??

DX is DirectX, not DivX - it's Microsoft's 3D graphics library stuff
try www.microsoft.com/directx for the latest version

Found the download site, problem number 2, I`m running Windows 98 and it says its only compatible with Windows 2000. It also says after installation it cannot be deleted as it changes core components! Am I safe to download Direct X 8.1 or not??:(

Ive got W98 and it works fine. I'm crap at it but the game works OK.:)

I give up!!! Got DX 8.1 wont run, says package is not compatable with the version of windows you are running!

Sounds like you've downloaded DX8.1 for Win2000 when you have 98 or vice versa.

DStretch, you were right! I loaded the 2000 version by mistake!! Loaded `98 got it running now:p

Well I'm not doing too bad, worked out a few tactics, which weapons are decent and a good order of 'perks' to get ... but ...

I'm still nowhere near my clan friend... once I start seeing some good scores flood in I'll post his screenshot and give you all something else to aim for :D

fookin ell man. Ok, tell us the secrets :D Is accuracy as important as I think it is?? ie, just short bursts of a gun rather than spraying. Is there a clue in the title??? more blood on floor = more points??

yay! such fun :D

Once I got to 60,000 monsters are just FLOODING in from all 4 sides of the screen, and I had rockets. Not the best weapon for clearing house!! I had the final revenge and bloody mess perks so when I died I got another 30k of points.. sweet :D

How you post the screen shots??

Pressing F12 in game takes a screenshot and saves it in your game directory. As far as I can tell, it only takes the one shot and overwrites any existing files, so I take a shot of the scores after dying, copy/paste into a paint tool and resize it and compress it a bit to make it nice and small.

The best thing about this game - easy to play, hard to master ... you'll probably start to notice little subtle things as you continue to play ... and then the scores will start to rack up ;)

First of all, make it a decent size. Photoshop is handy for this. Just crop out the bit we want and save that as a .jpg or something. You'll need to upload it somewhere (or email it to me) then I / you can show it.

I'll be over in Newbury later on tonight at i14 - http://www.multiplay.co.uk - 800 people paid so far so it's going to be quite the Lan PARTY... the two guys with the biggest scores I've seen are going to be there but seeing as we're all in the battlefield clan, I might not get much time to check out the 'tactics' for crimsonland, as we have been challenged by a 50-player clan to a battlefield tournament :D

Kingdeacon: very impressive score though - how fast were the monsters pouring in at that score!

right Im afraid Im gonna have to officially stop you playing this until you tell me how the hell you get this high??? I've managed an 85k now but most of the time 35-40. Using decent weapons / only good perks. what am I doing wrong??? someone ?? ? :(

but as I watched the guys play over the weekend, it is clear it is down to luck.

Some tips I've found:

get all the powerups / items. the more you get, the more regular they appear. ESSENTIAL to high scores as you need fire bullets basically one after another.

perks that help your weapon load faster, fire quicker, and sharpshooter if you have an auto, are pretty much recommended. doctor gives your shots more damage, long distance runner helps a lot too, especially if you've got a powerup on the other side of the screen.

Kingdeacon: :eek: top scores! Keep it going, break that million and I'll buy you a pint (or two :)
