Missus part exed her car for a new one last weekend, due to pick it up tommorow. Recieved a call from the dealer today to say that her car was an insurance write-off 8 years ago. Eh? didn't show up on the HPI check that i carried out on the car 4 years ago. So i ask him to send me the details he has and i will go beat up the cardata people.

I get the details, reg checks out and everything else. Except for total loss claim bit. Sure enough it states the car was a total loss claim, but the make a model is a Citron AX. My wifes car is a Renault Clio. WTF?

Turns out that the insurance people who wrote the AX off sent the wrong eg number in, an so the write off note was put against the wife's car.

Bit miffed that the dealer didn't spot this error on the on his paperwork, miffed that this can happen at the cardata check place, more miffed that i am having to sort out some one else's cock up, when you good money (and bad in some cases) for a job that you end up doing yourself.

Anybody here work at one of these cardata places?

No, but a mate was a contract programmer at one of the credit checking companies and they were testing a programme by making by queries against the live customer database. Until someone pointed out that every time your credit rating is requested it affects your credit rating...I think they were able to sort it all out:D

Was selling one of my old cars, the buyers ran a HPI check and was told it was stolen...then was told it was a peugeot 206 when it was a citreon ax. Apparently, they had got the wrong details logged under the registration number.

Then when buying a car, ran HPI check, was told outstanding finance and also written off. The sellers couldn't believe it because it was kept in the family. After investigations, was told all okay, and the details were wrongly updated.

Makes you wonder ...
